When you think about it, this is not the first time that the church was told to shelter in place. In the days following the resurrection of Jesus Christ, he gathered his disciples together and prepared them for what was coming. Then, Jesus said, “I want you to shelter in place in Jerusalem.”

Worship is a big deal: Cain killed his brother, Abel. Moses asked Pharaoh for some time to away in the wilderness to worship. Ancient Jewish families would bring animals to Jerusalem for the purpose of worship. And Jesus turned over the tables in the Temple because they were ruining worship.

Builders Of The Temple

We read of Zerubbabel being the master carpenter over the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem. He did physically build a temple, however, the scripture alludes to one being named, ‘The Branch’, to build the temple, and, ‘they that are far off shall come and build in the temple of the Lord.’

God tells us He will protect, guide and keep watch over us for His eternal purpose. In our scripture this morning, we will witness this Spiritual behavior. When Jesus arrived in Jerusalem, He went to the Temple and looked around. When Jesus visited the Temple the next day, He saw some things that He didn’t like and gives us insight on the church today. They knew Jesus was in town and yet it changed nothing!
