About Marty
  • Education: B.A. Lee College, Cleveland, Tennessee, 1983 M.A. Samford University, Birmingham, Ala. 1985 D.Min. Erskine Theological Seminary, Due West, SC 1994 Many Conferences and Seminars
  • Experience: Founding Pastor of Stevens Creek Church, Augusta, GA. The congregation began in a home in November 1987.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Realize that I am attempting to connect with un-churched people. I begin with the culture and then attempt to build a bridge to the Bible.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: Bill Hybels sermon on "The Seven Step Strategy"
  • One of my favorite illustrations: Evangelism is simply one beggar telling another beggar where to get the bread.
  • Family: My wife Patty is my best friend. She has given me three children, Stuart, Sarah and Samuel.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: Let’s be honest ... parents are not a good judge of sermons. Of course, they think that their children are the best.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She enjoys the sermons because I attempt to be concise and honest.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Make the Bible practical. Tell people what they need to know and tell them what to do.
  • Books that have had an impact: Baby Boomerang by Doug Murren; The Leadership Engine; Rediscovering Church by Bill Hybels; Books by Pat Williams of the Orlando Magic
  • Hobbies: University of South Carolina Sports Golf, computers
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Dare to dream ... the future is yours to see
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: Humor is discovered in the moment ... in other words you would have to be there to think it’s funny. My description of the event would not do it justice.
  • What I want on my tombstone: His dreams are now fulfilled
