To establish that "the god of this world" who blinds the eyes of disbelievers and the disobedient is not the Devil. Israel's perpetual blindness to the "veil being done away in Christ" was due to a "strong delusion" sent to them by the Lord.

In John 9, we read of the healing and salvation of a poor, blind man who has received not only physical sight, but also spiritual sight to see that Jesus was the Promised One of God. We also witness the deliberate spiritual lack of sight by the religious leaders who rejected the Light of God.
