[242]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – IT’S ALL IN THE SAVIOUR’S HANDS

This poem came about simply by thinking of the hands of Jesus when He took the bread at the Passover on the betrayal night. That led to thinking of other incidences and that’s how the poem resulted.

Each stanza covers one incident. They are –

[1]. JESUS NAILED TO THE CROSS. John 20:25, Acts 2:23, Colossians 2:14, Isaiah 53:5

[2]. JESUS WASHED THE DISCIPLES’ FEET AT SUPPER. John 13:3-14

[3]. JESUS TOOK THE PASSOVER BREAD IN HIS HANDS. Matthew 26:26-28, Luke 22:19-20, 1 Corinthians 11:23-25

[4]. JESUS FED THE MULTITUDE. Matthew 14:15-20, Luke 9:12-17

[5]. JESUS’S HAND HELD PETER SINKING IN THE WATER. Matthew 14:25-31

[6]. JESUS ANSWERS THE QUESTION ABOUT THE POLL TAX. Matthew 22:15-22. These two verses – {{Matthew 22:19-20 “Show Me the coin used for the poll-tax,” and they brought Him a denarius. He said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?”}} It does not say specifically that Jesus held the denarius in His hand but I think he must have and held it up to the accusers.

IT’S ALL IN THE SAVIOUR’S HANDS

They took those hands and nailed them through on wood,

Where cruel hands nailed as tightly as they could.

Jesus said not a word, nor railing curse.

The Lamb of God was nailed by men perverse.

He endured the cross held by arms outstretched.

Joy would follow soon, by salvation etched.

Tender servant hands washed at night those feet

When in the upper room they came to meet.

Washing, for cleansing in Him, to be part;

The Lord loved His own with fullness of heart.

“Lord, wash my feet and hands and all of me,

Because I want, your disciple to be.

On the Passover night the Lord took bread.

His hands broke the loaf on the table spread.

“This is My body here given for you.”

Those words the disciples did not construe –

The loaf spoke of the Lord’s impending death,

When for a short while, they would be bereft.

Five loaves and two fishes the Lord would bless;

On that sandy shore, their needs He’d address.

There, in His hands, He held the small boy’s lunch

Which multiplied greatly, so they could munch.

He who created the whole universe,

That food, Almighty God could disperse.

Support was found in the hands of the Lord,

When Peter’s feet to Jesus, walked toward.

Faith faltered, but Jesus’ hands held Him upright

He would not fail when Jesus held him tight.

Failure would teach us why we must abide,

And always remain by the Saviour’s side.

Whose likeness and inscription here is this,

The one stamped on this coin you can’t miss?

Jesus held the denarius to see.

The vindictive Pharisees had no plea.

There, Caesar’s image was clearly displayed.

Render to Caesar what can’t be defrayed.

Hands that held the bread in the upper room

The disciples saw, before the dark gloom.

On that cruel cross, from those wounds, His blood flowed.

“See, My hands and My feet,” there Jesus showed.

“Look Thomas, extend your hands to check Mine.”

“My Lord and my God” – his Saviour divine.

Jairus had a daughter twelve years of age.

He sought the Lord’s assistance, not through rage;

But in hope he knew the Lord could heal her,

So to the Lord, her case he would refer.

It was His hands that held the dead girl’s arm.

“Child, arise!” She rose in a peaceful calm.
