I Know My Redeemer Lives
Contributed on Nov 11, 2007
Like the Old Testament kinsman-redeemer, Jesus stands ready to reclaim and restore our place in his kingdom, rescue us from death, free us from slavery to sin, and be our advocate before the Father.
Additional Scripture: Luke 20:27-38 In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Amen. (Psalm 19:14) If you ever think you’re having a bad day, read the Book of ...read more

Run For It
Contributed on Nov 11, 2007
Zacchaeus and Martin Luther both learned the just are saved by faith; and Paul shows us that for Christians, All Saints Day and All Souls Day should be the same thing.
Collect: Almighty and merciful God, it is only by your gift that your faithful people offer you true and laudable service: Grant that we may run without stumbling to obtain your heavenly promises; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ...read more

Keeping The Faith
Contributed on Oct 28, 2007
We have hope only because we have faith. We only hope for what we believe is attainable. And we believe, or have faith, in God because of his love for us.
(Lectionary Reading is 2 Timothy 4:6-8,16-18 -- 9-15 is left out) Collect prayer: Almighty and everlasting God, increase in us the gifts of faith, hope, and charity; and, that we may obtain what you promise, make us love what you command; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with ...read more

Do Your Ears Itch?
Contributed on Oct 28, 2007
It seems like so many people have been revamping God’s Word lately, to make it less offensive, or more inclusive, or less intrusive into our personal behavior. Many of these people are clergy, which is even more disheartening.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Amen. (Psalm 19:14) Do your ears itch? It seems like so many people have been revamping the Word of God lately, to ...read more

God Helps Those Who Help Themselves
Contributed on Oct 28, 2007
We’ve convinced ourselves that “God helps those who help themselves.” Many people believe that’s even in the Bible. It’s not. In fact, I can’t think of anything more unbiblical.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Amen. (Psalm 19:14) What an awesome healing story in today’s Gospel! I’m not referring to the cure; I’m referring to ...read more

Contributed on Nov 11, 2007
Sometime ago, a traveling evangelist was riding along and singing to himself a song called, “I’ve Been Redeemed.” A fellow passenger heard him and began to sing along. When they finished singing the evangelist asked the stranger if he had been redeemed. The man said, “Yes, praise the Lord.” So ...read more

Contributed on Oct 28, 2007
Dave Roever (REE-ver) arrived in Vietnam in late 1968, serving our nation as a member of the elite Brown Water Black Berets. He was a Christian and really loved the Lord. During his tour, he patrolled the Mekong Delta area until July 26, 1969 when he was severely wounded. As his boat rounded a ...read more

The Senior Chaplain At The Marine Corps Base ...
Contributed on Oct 28, 2007
The senior chaplain at the Marine Corps Base where I work during the week lost his house and everything in it during the fires this week. When I spoke with him on Wednesday, he had just received the call telling him his house was on the list of addresses destroyed by the blaze. He didn’t mention ...read more

Some Theologians Have Tried To Reintroduce ...
Contributed on Oct 28, 2007
Some theologians have tried to reintroduce heretical teachings from the second and third centuries as newly-found Gospels. They claim writings like the “Gospel of Thomas” are authentic teachings of Jesus and his disciples. I’m reminded of the time President Abraham Lincoln met with General ...read more

When I Was In The Navy, Sailors Told Each Other ...
Contributed on Oct 28, 2007
When I was in the Navy, Sailors told each other all sorts of stories about what happened on various deployments or on liberty. They were called sea stories, and were often far from being true. In fact we used say that the difference between a fairy tale and a sea story was that a fairy tale begins ...read more
