The heart of God yearned for repentance and Israel's return from idolatry. Israel was carried away in judgement, and Judah did not learn. It was so joined to idolatry that God kept likening it to an adulterous wife He would receive back if the nation repented. Faithless, treacherous Judah.

The Falling Away Comes First

The Thessalonians were looking forward to His coming. But something caused them to be “shaken in mind and troubled.” The assurance Paul gives to them gives assurance to us as well: the Lord has promised to return for His own, and we have not missed it. The falling away will come first.
