To be a Christian requires us to be fully involved in our relationship with Christ. If we truly believe we should be able to show how different we are to the world around us. The more we immerse ourselves with Christ the more we glow with an inner light.

The first thing that jumps out at many people in this passage is that little phrase ‘be subject to’ or ‘submit’, or ‘be submissive’. People can get hung up in that and lose the intention of what is being said.

In today’s Gospel reading, Peter responds to Jesus’ announcement that the Messiah will have to suffer and die by denying the cross. Peter is in essence denying the truth of this teaching – that the Messiah must suffer and by extension, his disciples.
