About Roshelle
  • Education: BA - Religion and History Masters Degree in Religious Education and Discipleship
  • Experience: Working in Various Associate Pastor positions since 2007
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: It is my desire that you see Jesus in the words that you read. Not my denomination.... Not my gender.... JESUS.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: "Meddle not in the affairs of dragons, for thou art crunchy and taste good with ketchup." Why is this my favorite? Because it reminds me that I cannot stand toe to toe with the devil wearing my flimsy human armor.
  • Family: One husband One dog
  • What my parents think of my sermons: Awesome, of course!!
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: If only he could stay awake long enough to comment..........
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: It's not so much advice, as it is a question that I ask my self. "Do I preach unmixed with human tradition?" I believe it is an important question because loving church and church traditions are not the same as loving Jesus and what I am called to is point people to Him.
  • Books that have had an impact: Holiness by J.C. Ryle Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer Windows of the Soul by Ken Gire Desire of Ages by Ellen White I Used to be Perfect by George Knight
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Look to Jesus and be transformed. He's your friend. He loves you. He died to save you. He wants, more than anything, to spend eternity with you.
  • What I want on my tombstone: Taking a nap 'til Jesus comes

As we learned last week, there were some significant consequences attached to David’s decisions regarding Bathsheba. The most far reaching of those consequences was Yahweh’s declaration that the sword would never depart from David’s house. That part of Israel’s history begins today.

March 14, 2026 Since the story today is not found in Chronicles, we will focus our attention on 2nd Samuel 13-20 Both Amnon (Ahinoam) and Absalom (Maacah) had been born while David’s capital was at Hebron. Tamar is included with the children born to David after the capital relocated to ...read more

In the Spring, when kings go off to war.....

March 07, 2026 Our new section begins with the words, “in the course of time,” indicating that the events that follow did not happen all at once, but over a period of time. 2nd Samuel 8 and 1st Chronicles 18 mirror each other, recording David’s military successes and introducing us to his ...read more

The Ark resided at the home of Abinadab until David decided it was time to bring it to Jerusalem.

February 28, 2026 According to 1st Samuel 4, the Ark was captured by the Philistines during battle. After 7 months, it was returned to Israel. However, the worship center at Shiloh had been destroyed and abandoned, so the Ark was eventually taken to Abinadab’s house at Kiriath Jearim where it ...read more

February 14, 2026 Here’s the thing about choices, regardless of the motivation driving them, there are often unexpected consequences. Saul was motivated by pride, fear and self-preservation – he paid a high price, but so did the nation and his family. David was also motivated by fear and ...read more

  • Saul's Tragic End

    Contributed on Feb 5, 2026

Now the Bible informs us that Samuel has died. With his death Israel’s transition from a Theocracy to a Monarchy was complete. Only one problem remained: Saul had chosen to reject God’s leadership and David was not yet ready to be king.

January 31, 2026 Last week, we went on the run with David as Saul relentlessly pursued him. They parted ways after David chose to spare Saul’s life at the cave in Desert of En Gedi. Now the Bible informs us that Samuel has died. With his death Israel’s transition from a Theocracy to a ...read more
