Many people need proof of the authenticity of Jesus the Christ who was born in a manger long ago. Matthew uses the genealogical record of Jesus in order to show Jesus' royal lineage. He also includes some folks in that lineage to show that the heart of the Lord is open to all!

Religion is the expression of one's faith put into practice. For many professed Christians, religion is all they have, because they don't have the faith of Christ the Lord. Too much religion will tend to lead us astray. Faith will lead us to Christ.

It is easy to assert that it is all about Jesus. Sometimes we believe that our focus is sincerely upon the person and work of Christ. But, is it? John the Baptist was Jesus focused, but when are we? Matthew 3:1-17 provides five moments when we are Jesus focused.
