While we may understand the words Jesus spoke in this statement, we lack the ability to comprehend the enormity of His words and the actual context in which He spoke them. He was forsaken so we could escape being eternally condemned and forsaken.

When a sinner realizes that they are lost and understand the meaning of salvation, they should RUN to Jesus and not delay. There are several examples of men in the New Testament who actually ran to Jesus.

Both Matthew 27:45 and Mark 15:33 tells us that as Jesus was hanging on the cross darkness covered the land. Then Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34 quote Jesus as asking, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
