1. Prepare The Way Of The Lord
Contributed on Apr 3, 2023
A voice was needed, and voice was heard. It was that of John the Baptist. Jesus is the promised deliverer and John is the promised forerunner.
Have you ever had that terrible sinking feeling of being unprepared? As a student maybe there was a test you did not study for. As an adult maybe the tax deadline came, and you were not ready. Proper preparation is the key to many things going right. If you have been part of planning a big event, ...read more

2. Temptation
Contributed on Apr 5, 2023
Jesus’ temptation and His victory over temptation are practical for us because we are so often ourselves tempted. Jesus is victorious over temptation. We have a savior who can identify with our temptations.
You will be tempted. You can be sure of that. It is helpful for us to look at how Jesus was tempted and how Jesus responded to his temptation in the wilderness. This will help us in developing our strategy of resisting our own temptation. It doesn’t get much more practical than how to respond to ...read more

Charles Sheldon wrote a challenging book called In His Steps. In this book Henry Maxwell is the pastor of First Church Raymond. A visitor about 33 years old out of work walked to the front of the church and asks what does it mean to follow Christ? He collapsed and died three days later. A group ...read more

5. Jesus: A Teacher With Authority
Contributed on Apr 4, 2023
Jesus walked into the synagogue in Capernaum. When Jesus taught there was a striking difference to the norm. Not as the scribes and the teachers of the law. It says he taught as one who had authority.
Mark 1:21-28 In Mark Chapter 1 don’t see Jesus lying in a manger. We see a different perspective of Jesus. We see a thirty-year-old man. We see Jesus with authority so striking that people can only stare in amazement. Definition of authority is the power or the right to command. Jesus’ ...read more

6. Jesus And His Prayer Life
Contributed on Oct 7, 2023
We all need a daily pattern of prayer. Sometimes we also need an extended time of prayer. It means we are following the pattern of our Lord and really making time for solitary prayer a priority along with our corporate time of prayer.
We need to pray. We need to follow the example of our Lord Jesus who made prayer a priority. We will look at the passage of scripture that tells us about when Jesus got up very early and got off by himself to pray. There was a cartoon where one praying mantis was talking with another and said, ...read more

Jesus showed mercy to lepers, prostitutes, adulterers and associated with people society treated as people to be avoided. Jesus sought out those who were down and out. When they met Jesus, their lives were transformed.
There is something very gratifying about being accepted by people of high social status. If I am ever with someone with high social standing or if they have lots of clout, I am right away taken in. 9. New Wine, Old Wineskins
Contributed on Jan 31, 2022
The Pharisees were hopping mad that Jesus and his disciples were living it up feasting, celebrating and having a good old time. Why were Jesus disciples feasting and not fasting? As usual Jesus not only answered their question, but gave them a deeply profound theological answer.
There is an old television commercial that I still remember, and I still snicker when I think about it. The commercial is in black and white. Contributed on Feb 3, 2022
We are to walk by faith not sight. Of course you can’t see the outcome of your storm. That would be sight. Why are you so afraid? You have been with Jesus for so long. Do you still have so little faith?
Are you going through one of life's storms? You need to know if anyone cares. Does Jesus care what happens? 11. Faith That Makes You Whole
Contributed on Jan 30, 2022
Your faith has made you whole. None of us will ever know the fullness, wholeness that God intends without faith in Christ. We do not come to Jesus by our good works. Salvation is a free gift and Jesus already paid the price when he died on the cross.
Faith has been illustrated in many ways, some of the illustrations successfully illustrate faith and some are not so successful. I remember seeing a friend of my wife and I in a wheelchair. When we asked her what happened she explained she took part in a faith exercise. She was asked to jump off a ...read more

14. What Will You Gain?
Contributed on Aug 11, 2023
There are two sharply contrasting philosophies of life. One is seen in the rich fool story. It is about going for what the world offers. The other philosophy of life is about going for what Christ offers. Our passage contrasts these two philosophies.
What will you gain? Mark 8:34-38 The story is told of a rich farmer, his fields were particularly fruitful, so much so that there was not enough room to store everything. He tore down the barns and built new and bigger ones. After the new barns were built, he felt like he could sit back and ...read more

16. A Glimpse Of Glory – The Transfiguration
Contributed on Jul 28, 2023
The transfiguration fits with the theme of what Jesus was trying to get over to his disciples, that he must die and they must be prepared. Jesus took three disciples and led them up the high mountain.
Have you ever had what you would describe as a mountaintop spiritual experience? A time when you felt so close to God you just caught a glimpse of glory. If so, it may have been a very emotional experience. Our faith is not based on emotional experience, yet at the same time, when those times do ...read more

18. Let The Little Children Come
Contributed on Aug 6, 2023
Jesus loves little children. Not only are the children precious in his sight but they are important. As a matter of fact, Jesus will teach that adults have an important lesson to learn from children.
Let the Little Children come has been a popular theme for children’s camp and vacation Bible school. It is taken from the passage about Jesus blessing little children. It is a tender and sentimental passage and very welcome because it follows some judgement passages. If you have been waiting for ...read more

19. The Rich Young Ruler
Contributed on Aug 3, 2023
When the rich young ruler comes to Jesus, we have a living example before the eyes of the disciples of the contrast. Here is someone willing to pay the price of spiritual discipline, yet someone who could not with childlike faith give his all to Christ.

The more we have humility, and we are serving others the more we are like Christ. The places of honor in Christi’s kingdom are not reserved for those who seek it selfishly.
In our passage the disciples are sensing Jesus’ time has come. They know Jesus is the anointed Messiah and now they are arguing who will sit in Jesus’ right and left when his kingdom is established.
