  • The Excitement Of Easter

Contributed by Dr. Odell Belger on Feb 17, 2022
    based on 1 rating

It is a blessing for us to be able to come to church and hear the gospel preached over and over again. Why?

Because of two reasons: (1) It is a blessing, when you consider the fact that some have never heard the gospel. We are blessed to have heard it preached over and over again. (2) Another reason is because the more we can hear something, the more we receive from it. For example, it is ...read more

Contributed by James Wallace on Jan 18, 2021

Life is often a matter of focus? As we follow Christ, we can focus on the struggles and persecution we might endure. Or we can focus on the benefits, eternal and glorious, of continuing to follow Christ. Hebrews 2 encourages us to do the latter.

The Cost of Abandoning Christ Hebrews 2:5-14 A few years ago we had what we called a water bottle outreach at Lazy 5 Recreational Area. It was during one of the music festivals they used to have there, before Covid, on weekday summer evenings. We would hand out water bottles and invitations to ...read more

Contributed by Sam Mccormick on Aug 29, 2019
     | 5,700 views

"My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?" Jesus' terrible cry on the cross is answered in Psalm 22.

For Sermon Central researchers: I have posted a series of 15 sermons on the Psalms. In recent personal studies I have found the psalms to be richer and more thought-provoking than I had fully appreciated. I had too often swept swiftly through psalms without slowing down to inquire as thoroughly as ...read more

The crucifixion and suffering of Jesus is not the end of Psalm 22.

The Rest of the Story: Psalm 22:22-31 The opening words of the 22nd Psalm are remembered in that Jesus spoke this verse from the cross. “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” Much has been said by theologians about this verse about this being the time the sin if the world was placed on Jesus ...read more

  • Is He Your God? Series

Good Friday: Psalm 22 is an amazingly accurate depiction of the events that surrounded Jesus’ crucifixion, and there is a lot we can learn from this passage about God’s character and His power over both life and death.

Our passage that we will examine today is amazing, for it is a prophecy of the passion story, or an account of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, that was written nearly 800 years before the birth of Jesus. James Smith says that, “Such a hope [as is found in this passage] must be restricted to the ...read more

  • Psalm 22: A Cry For Deliverance

Contributed by Jason Smith on Sep 25, 2013
     | 12,676 views

This messianic psalm is a psalm in which David, at a time in his life that was dark and seemed to be hopeless, cried on the Lord for deliverance and received it. David also, as a prophet, speaks of the Lord's suffering, death, and resurrection.

INTRODUCTION I really love the psalms. Psalm after psalm we see the writers just pour out their hearts out to the Lord. No matter what their emotions and attitudes were, they approached their God with their concerns. We see psalms of praise glorifying the Lord for who He is and what He has done ...read more

Maintaining an attitude of praise in the midst of affliction: Jesus' example.

A PARADIGM OF PRAISE. Psalm 22:23-31. The details of the sufferings in Psalm 22:1-21 match more exactly the anguish of Jesus than anything that we can find in any of the written records of David’s life - and because of this the church has always read this Psalm of David as a Psalm of Jesus. In ...read more

Psalm 22 is an amazing piece of literature. The way David writes this, you’d almost think he was standing at the cross because these events never took place in David's life, but instead were written 1,000 years before Christ's birth. Praise God!

In Psalm 22:1-21 the Psalm speaks of suffering and agony and points to the greatest suffering of all, that of Jesus Christ dying on the cross. The Psalm then takes a dramatic change. In verses 22-31 Psalm 22 turns from tragedy to triumph.

In 1898 one of the greatest preachers of America was about to quit the ministry. Why? His name was George Truett. He was pastor of Frist Baptist Church Dallas. One of the church members, Captain J. C. Arnold invited him to go hunting. Truett’s gun went off hitting Arnold in the leg with birdshot. ...read more

  • Simple Steps For An Extraordinary New Year

Contributed by John Dobbs on Jan 6, 2023

Psalm 22 begins as a lament - a desperate plea to God from someone who knows how much he needs God. The terms are clear - without God there is no hope. With God there is always hope, and David gives us a map here, finding hope when challenges are all around us
