  • The Messiah God Wants, Not Necessarily The One You Want Series

Contributed by W Pat Cunningham on Aug 29, 2021

Why did Jesus not heal many of the sick in His own home town?

Monday of 22nd week in Course 1 Cor 2: 1-5; Lk 4: 16-30 Hearing today’s Gospel with fresh ears might lead some of us to be a little critical of Jesus. After all, the townsfolk of Nazareth welcomed Jesus back and invited Him to act as lector and even give the homily. When he told them that He was ...read more

Decide FIRST if you are willing to pay the price of discipleship BEFORE following Jesus

April 16, 2022 Have you ever asked this question, “How much is this going to cost?” Before buying a car…. Before investing in that cruise…. Before getting those Solar Panels…. • Embracing Grace

Contributed by Isaac Butterworth on Apr 2, 2022
     | 3,071 views

The vast majority of people do not "accept" Christ (Luke 4:24) but refuse the "favor" (grace) He offers (v. 19). God has sent Christ to offer His grace. We must embrace the grace offered in Christ. Luke shows us how.

There’s a key word in this passage that I would like to point out. It is not obvious in the English, so it’s a bit tricky. But the word ‘favor’ in verse 19 and the word ‘acceptable’ in verse 24 render the same Greek word, which is dektos. In fact, in the King James Version it is translated ...read more

Contributed by Clarence Eisberg on Jan 20, 2022
     | 2,043 views

The home coming of Jesus is similar to a 25th or 50th class reunion. Old playmates wanted demonstrations in their village, not the message of salvation. Leonard Sweet said: “Jesus is on earth today but not as an individual. He is here in the form of the “ekklesia”, the church.

In Jesus Holy Name January 23, 2022 Luke 4:18-19 Epiphany IV “The Church – The Body of Jesus on Earth” “The Mission Statement of Jesus” Over the weekend at our church campout the topic came up regarding high school and college reunions. The very first thing that happens when you ...read more

Prelude An angry hatred of immigrants is popular. Purpose: Yet God’s promise to Abraham was that in him ALL nations would be blessed. • Jesus Defends His Divinity

Contributed by Donald Whitchard on Jan 27, 2022
     | 1,520 views

Shortly after Jesus healed the crippled man at the pool of Bethsaida (John 5:1-15), He was confronted by the religious officials who wanted Him dead for saying that God was His Father, making Himself equal withe God. Jesus responded with facts to back up His claim.

If there was an apt description of the attitude of the Pharisees towards the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ (John 5:18), it is this, "There are none so blind as those who will not see". All throughout this account of the Lord's life and work and in the other Gospels as ...read more

Jesus has a vision for his ministry and the people have another, a different vision. The people’s own expectations have deafened them to the fulfillment of the scriptures. They are so caught up in their own agenda they cannot hear, let alone participate in, God’s agenda.

“What’s your plan for the day?” It’s a question I often ask my wife; usually on the weekend. But sometimes in the evenings after work I’ll say, “What’s your plan for this evening?” What’s your plan for the weekend? They seem like innocent enough questions and often they are. I’m really interested ...read more

Contributed by Darrell Ferguson on Oct 19, 2023
     | 1,656 views

In his hometown, the people didn’t believe Jesus because he was a local handyman. Such an irrational conclusion is due to living by feeling instead of fact. Agnosticism is an effort to justify ignorance.

Mark 6:1 Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. 2 When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. “Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him and such miraculous ...read more
