As we recall, when Jesus was approaching Jericho, he had an encounter with a blind named Bartimeaus, a poor beggar from the lowest of the social class according to society. As I recap the four conditions that Bartimeaus had. First of all remember he was blind. Then he had his belief. He had his ...read more

  • Zacchaeus

Contributed by Lucy Paynter on Sep 7, 2019

Every time I read the gospels recounting of Jesus ministry I am amazed at how every turn, route or path Jesus took was a planned season for someone to encounter him. Jesus entered and passed through Jerico and this time it was Zacchaeus season of visitation.

Luke 19 King James Version (KJV) 19 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. 2 And, behold, there was a man named Zaccheaus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. 3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. 4 ...read more

What a terrible position to be in, when we find ourselves dangerously positioned higher than Christ. This is when Jesus challenges us to Come On Down.

TITLE: COME ON DOWN SCRIPTURE: ST. LUKE 19:1-10 I am reminded of a game show that has been televised since 1956 entitled THE PRICE IS RIGHT. Even if you are not a fan of the game show we are very familiar with the announcers call to those in attendance as they hope for the opportunity to be ...read more

  • What Jesus Knew

Contributed by Terry Barnhill on May 11, 2010
     | 2,091 views

He’s telling you not to be surprised “if the world hates you”, and then he’s telling you why it hates you. It’s precisely because “we love our brothers.”

In preparing the sermon for today, a singular thought pressed on me repeatedly. We read the stories of Jesus. We recite the Creeds of Christendom, and we share the understanding that Jesus was fully God and fully man . . . the divine paradox. But how often are we really willing to make the ...read more

A perspective on Luke 19: On the road to Jerusalem, Jesus stopped to give life to others according to their needs. Jesus teaches that we all need to stop from time to time and give life to someone in need. In this way we live in his kingdom.

On The Way To Jerusalem Introduction “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord” (v.38), so shouted the expectant crowd that surrounded Jesus as he made his way to Jerusalem. The subject of that verse clearly expresses a major theme of chapter 19. The Gospel writer, Luke ...read more
