Contributed by Scott Maze on Jun 3, 2021

Do you wonder why the Bible included the story of Judas’ suicide inside the pages of the Bible? The reason God included the story of Judas is simple: Not even the betrayal of one of Jesus’ chosen twelve can stop the mission of church.

Today, I want to speak to you on this important topic: “Hope in the Face of Fear.” Isolated from meeting together because of the Coronavirus, we meet for worship online. Of course, there is no substitute for gathering together in person. How I look forward to seeing everyone face to face! I am so ...read more

Jesus is leaving soon. "Believe" him, ask for anything, and love one another.

This morning we continue our series in the Gospel of John. And we are one of the many points in the book, where I'm not sure how I should try to teach it. Really, chapters 13-17 work as one giant section, and we are supposed to grab them in their entirety, and hear them in one setting. ...read more

Today, we will be studying the passage from the Gospel of John, chapter 13, verses 31 to 38. In this passage, Jesus speaks to his disciples about the importance of getting their house in order. Just as Hezekiah was told to set his house in order before his death, Jesus urges his followers to take a ...read more

Jesus didn’t treat Judas any differently than He did the other Twelve. Shakespeare cannot have Jesus say, “Et tu, Judas,” because Jesus knew what was coming. And even though Jesus knew what was coming, He didn’t treat Judas any differently than He did any other disciple over those three years.

Find John 13 with me, if you will. Many of you recognize the phrase “Et Tu, Brute?” immediately. It’s Latin for “You too, Brutus?” It’s a quote from Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar, where the Roman dictator speaks to his friend Marcus Junius Brutus. Caesar recognizes Brutus as one of his ...read more

learn who to live in relationship with God

OUR CHARGE John 13:1-17, 31-35 Today is Maundy Thursday, the least understood, probably least attended, and surely the most intimate of the Christian holy days. It was the time of Passover, when all Jews commemorated their escape from the Angel of Death while captives in Egypt. As we partake in ...read more

Jesus said the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Does that mean we’re doomed to failure because of weak flesh? No. Jesus gave us a remedy.

Mark 14:27 "You will all fall away," Jesus told them, "for it is written: " 'I will strike the shep-herd, and the sheep will be scattered.' 28 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee." 29 Peter declared, "Even if all fall away, I will ...read more

  • The Departure Of Jesus From This World Series

Contributed by Jerry Cosper on May 20, 2024

We will find that Jesus’ death did three things, so that is where we will focus our attention. Jesus’ death brought a threefold glory. Jesus’ death demanded a new commandment. Jesus’ death revealed stumbling and faltering loyalty.

Last time we ended our study with Judas being asked by Jesus to go and do quickly what he was going to do. Tonight we find Jesus talking about His approaching death. In tonight’s passage we will find that Jesus’ death did three things, so that is where we will focus our attention. First, let’s ...read more

The servant of the Lord described by Isaiah today actually becomes a light, not just for people Israel, but for the goy, the nations. Wherever this servant would be, darkness would flee, and salvation would enter.

Tuesday of Holy Week 2026 None of us, I suppose, has ever lived in a house without electricity for more than a few hours or days. Those would be periods of a weather emergency, or utility blackout. But in a place without utilities, lanterns and candles would be used to extend the period of work or ...read more

You can avoid making a fool of yourself if you submit to Jesus as your Lord, admit your weakness before Him, and embrace the truth He offers.

One evening, while waiting for a bus, a young man was standing with a crowd of people looking in the widow of a taxidermist shop. In the center of the window was a large owl that attracted the attention of all who passed by. The self-appointed expert began to criticize the job done on it. “If I ...read more
