In Joel 2:12-17, the prophet renews his impassioned plea to return unto the Lord through a call for repentance. This call has two facets in first a 1) Personal (Joel 2:12–14) then a 2) Corporate response (Joel 2:15–17) to God.

The invitation was to live in the ways of God. It was an invitation to come back to the ways that the people knew were right. When Hosea uses the words “let us”, he speaks in clear terms here to communicate that those who needed to return to the LORD were not alone.

It seems that this passage describes God’s indictment of all hypocrites, regardless of race or religion, culture or creed. Both Jews and Gentiles are included in this discussion, but the Gentile often appears in a better light than the Jew.
