The pharisees and Scribes used this woman as a pond in their scheme. In this one move, they could condemn the woman, turn the crowd against her and turn them away from the influence of Jesus. One slip of the tongue would be the end of Jesus. Yet Jesus offered a new beginning to all!

The lesson today is one of that was avoided by the early Church and was even left out of some early manuscripts. This is Jesus second discourse in the temple. We cringe when we hear about shooting the wounded; but how many times have we seen a brother or sister in Christ who was suffering spiritually, and then we shot him or her down with our words of judgment and condemnation?

Bitterness arises from failing to forgive someone who has wronged you. It comes from clinging to bad memories or hurtful experiences from the past and not letting them go. Many times bitterness will give rise to vengeance.
