Jude was a remarkable man. He grew up with Jesus as His brother and did not believe until the cross. His letter is very special and we are going to look at every verse of it. I think we will be thrilled at what this book contains for us. Let us begin and dig the treasures.

2. Our Common Salvation And Contending Earnestly For The Faith - Jude 1 Verse 3

Jude was setting out the points of our common salvation, when the Holy Spirit urged on him the importance and urgency to defend that salvation. That overtook him, and he asked the readers to “contend earnestly” for the faith. He appealed to them to do that.

Even in Jude's time false teachers had crept into the church and Jude does not hold back. In this message we look into "creeping" and examine these false teachers, ungodly men, the wolves among the lambs. There is much warning for us too 1950 years later.

Jude is presenting a God of holiness who will not tolerate sin. Those who left Egypt were destroyed through unbelief. Then the most evil angels - Who are the fallen angels who abandoned their position of authority? Apostasy linked to false teachers. Book of Enoch looked at.

5. Has The World Learnt From Sodom And Gomorrah? A Great Evil Is On Us - Jude 1 V 7

This message touches on a very difficult area - the consideration of Sodom and Gomorrah and the conflict between Christians and homosexuality. Placed in context, Jude raises the matter of Sodom because he is concentrating on destruction coming on these false teachers.

6. Defiling Dreamers Are In Stark Contrast With Michael The Archangel - Jude 1 V 8-9

The dispute over the body of Moses is so difficult a verse when Michael and Satan argued over Moses' body. The details are not known. Jude continues his exposure of false teachers and hones in this time on the dreamers who defile the flesh, brazen and wicked.

Light accepted, is life obtained, but light rejected, is darkness accepted, and life forfeited. Jude writes of these blasphemers, unreasoning animals acting by instinct, who destroy themselves. Men's hearts follow evil to their own destruction. False teachers will be destroyed.

Jude continues his description of the false teachers who were causing so much havoc. In this message he likens them to Cain, the self-willed, murderous one; and to Korah and his followers who were rebellious. False teaching is destructive.

A donkey in the hands of the Lord, is superior to a donkey of a man. Balaam was the real donkey. If it was not for an obedient donkey, Balaam would have died as a disobedient donkey, and the obedient donkey would have lived. Jude continues the message on false teachers

Was Balaam a great prophet? Wonderful things came from the mouth of Balaam when he blessed Israel and did not curse them. Jude makes reference to him with "the error of Balaam" but how do we see that error in churches? That is what we will consider this morning.

Jude gets very descriptive of these false teachers and in verse 12 there are 7 descriptions of these perverse people who sink church fellowships; cause destruction; bring chaos into the church, and corrupt the morals, and the working and the effectiveness of the functioning church.

Jude continues his description of the false teachers using metaphors to describe them. This follow on from hidden reefs and we now have empty clouds without water, useless in promise and leaving bitter failure. Many people are left hurt, and without hope, and fleeced and betrayed.

Autumn fruits that are withered from worthless trees. - this is the next description Jude gives of these wicked false teachers who savage the truth of the gospel. These men cause havoc but they are described as "doubly dead and uprooted". God hates His truth being destroyed.

We must know the true, so we can expose the false. We must know the false, so we can uphold the good. Jude encourages his readers to build themselves up in their faith followed by several commands for Christian living so they keep themselves unpolluted by the world.
