[288]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – THE XXXXXX PUBLIC SERVICE
Maybe some might think this is a harsh poem but we live now in harsh times and sometimes bluntness is needed to wake up the offenders.
I have deliberately omitted the identification from the title, so what is said could apply to just so many public institutions where arrogance rules. The public service, the civil service, the bureaucrats, the administration, the autocrats, are just names given to these organisations depending where one lives internationally.
I remember in the 1960s when I needed help with something from government officials, they were so obliging, knowledgeable and courteous. People took their jobs seriously and worked hard. Now too many of them are just bludgers on the public purse.
I nearly used the term - Self-indulgent bureaucrats – for personally I have seen that for myself. I would also say - Coffee-drinking, Self-assumed autocrats.”
What has brought this change about? There are a multitude of reasons. Just a day or two ago I found out that Australia has the highest ratio of public servants/bureaucrats to the population, anywhere in the world. One reason for that is stacking these bureaucratic institutions to gain electoral votes. In many nations the bureaucrats are more powerful than the politicians.
I wonder how many people (older ones now) remember that fantastically excellent British series called “Yes Minister” and “Yes Prime Minister”? It is so true to form.
The purpose of this explanation is not to run down the bureaucrats who sit all day in offices and attend endless meetings. The poem is meant to expose just one aspect of what society has become.
Apart from the cynical moves of man, all this should be no surprise to thinking Christians. Regarding the last days of the Church age, God has said this – {{2 Timothy 3:12-13 “Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. EVIL MEN AND IMPOSTORS WILL PROCEED FROM BAD TO WORSE, deceiving and being deceived.”}}
Also in the same Timothy chapter Paul lists some of the conditions of the last days –
{{2 Timothy 3:1-4 “Realise this, that in the last days difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self, LOVERS OF MONEY, boastful, ARROGANT, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, HATERS OF GOOD, TREACHEROUS, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God”}}
Not only does that describe some of the public service and bureaucrats, but it describes all in society, especially today in western nations. One thing is certain – things get worse not better before the Lord comes to rapture His Church.

THE XXXXXX PUBLIC SERVICE
When I clash with wickedness, how hurtful is all that.
Worst of all are the times when evil people, you combat.
Rude and arrogant they are, unashamed to deceive.
This is what you get, when in God, people don’t believe.
=======================
Lying is acceptable; to defraud is common.
Government officials are as stubborn as oxen.
Confrontation is the means to gain their cunning aim,
Beating people down in control, so they’re all the same.
=======================
What is bad now on this earth is going to get worse.
Gone is the friendliness as people get more terse.
Not accountable to God, allows behaviours bad;
Careless about the decency society had.
=======================
These arrogant officials, public servants and such -
Most don’t care for people, but for themselves, they care much.
Do good to one another, and help those who have need,
Is a concept these brazen upstarts neglect to heed.
=======================
They kowtow to those they seek, that might advance their cause;
Crawling cockroaches; slithering snakes; after applause.
Why do you trample the needy? Why their hurt dismiss?
You sit on your thrones and deliver the Judas kiss.
=======================
Be warned you arrogant people who think you’re immune,
God keeps the records, and you will pay the accounts soon.
Be not deceived in anything, for God is not mocked –
To the unrepentant, the gates of heaven are locked.
