[265]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – THE GLORY OF THE SON [Version 1]

I get very uneasy about songs sung in churches that seem to glorify the person of man rather than the Person of Christ. Singing today is too egocentric and that takes away the glory from Christ. All praise and glory belong to Him; to our God who loves, saves, restores, and will one day gather all His own where we will glorify the Son, NOT ourselves.

My purpose in this poem is to bring the rightful glory to the Lord Jesus Christ. The four stanzas feature a small glimpse in heaven; and different experiences here on earth. Of course our faith is in vain unless Christ was raised from the grave, and His glorious resurrection is, and will be our theme forever, and that features in the last stanza.

{{1 Corinthians 15:17-20 “and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless. You are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied, BUT now CHRIST HAS BEEN RAISED FROM THE DEAD, the first fruits of those who are asleep.”}}

Glory, Glory be to the Son who won for us salvation from a lost eternity. Praise, Praise be unto Him who saved us and prepared the delights of His presence.

{{Matthew 17:1-3 “Six days later Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John his brother, and brought them up to a high mountain by themselves, and He was transfigured before them and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light, and behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them talking with Him.”}}

There are two versions of this poem which I will place in illustrations. The difference between them is the line metre.

God bless all who read.

THE GLORY OF THE SON [Version 1]

Saviour, Lord, You’re reigning now;

The King of saints will ever be.

Heaven’s glory stamps Your brow,

That glory, the redeemed will see.

Eyes of faith will mark You crowned.

When all are gathered at Your feet,

Hallelujahs all around -

Their praise and worship then so sweet.

======================

Glory, Lord, adorned You here;

From human eyes, was darkly veiled.

Peter, James and John drew near,

That privileged day when grace prevailed.

From the mount the voice proclaimed,

Affirming God’s beloved One;

To the three boldly exclaimed,

That God was pleased with His dear Son.

======================

Crown of thorns, the Lamb adorned;

No glory there displayed with Him.

For His passion, few who mourned,

And none who knew He bore their sin.

Deepest blackness cast about,

When shameful cloak surrounded Christ.

Penalty was meted out.

At such high cost our sins were priced.

======================

Raised from death to life again;

Ascended to the Father’s side.

No more suffering or pain,

In heaven now He’s glorified.

Glory! Glory! God the Son!

Extol and worship His dear Name!

Countless voices - trophies won,

In glory, too, recount His fame.
