[239]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – SING TO THE GREATNESS OF THE LORD

How can I describe this poem? It is a fact and praise poem. I wanted to start the poem with praise, for our God is greatly adored, and has done so much for helpless sinners.

The metre used here, 5 - 7 - 5 – 7, gives the poem an emphasis I think. I wanted the praise to be on the Lord Jesus as too much of contemporary singing is superficial and egocentric.

There are 4 stanzas, and in each stanza the first two lines set the tone for the stanza.

It was a bit difficult to write because being a 5-7 metre, the initial syllable had to be stressed on the first syllable in the line.

Just one comment here in this couplet –

“Your praises, raise high

Through earth and heaven and sky.”

“raise” is not a mistake. I did not mean “rise”. “rise” would be a statement. “raise” is an invitation to do this – raise up His praise!

{{1 Chronicles 16:23-29 “Sing to the LORD, all the earth. Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day. Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples, for GREAT IS THE LORD, AND GREATLY TO BE PRAISED. He also is to be feared above all gods, for all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before Him. Strength and joy are in His place. Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name. Bring an offering, and come before Him. Worship the LORD in holy array.”}}

SING TO THE GREATNESS OF THE LORD

I will shout and sing

Because of joy for my King.

To Him will be praise

Throughout heaven’s endless days:

Jesus Christ enthroned!

Those redeemed by blood atoned,

Sinners won by grace,

In Jesus, salvation trace.

=================

Those who own His Name

Lift their voices to proclaim

Glory to their Lord;

Who to heaven have been called!

Jesus, precious One,

Mighty God, eternal Son,

Your great sympathy

Excelled through Your majesty.

=================

We’re saved from sin’s night

And given brightness of sight;

Redeemed by Christ’s blood,

Now washed in the cleansing flood,

Bound for heaven’s shore –

Tearless peace and love, and more!

Exalt the Saviour

Who has shown you such favour.

=================

Jesus Christ our Lord,

Among us greatly adored,

We look on Your face.

Lord, You removed our disgrace.

Our love evermore

To our Redeemer will soar;

Your praises, raise high

Through earth and heaven and sky.
