Jesus speaks of Himself here. Jesus’ death is the grain of wheat that had to die. Jesus is the grain of wheat that had to be multiplied. Jesus’ death generates a huge harvest. The path to glory is HIS death; again, the roadway to Jesus’ glory is His death.

John continually speaks of a mysterious hour with little to no explanation. Like Hansel and Gretel’s breadcrumbs, the reference to “the hour” is important clue to understand Jesus in John’s gospel.

God’s Glory On Display

Both the powerful and the powerless were wrong in their expectation, yet God had a plan and Jesus knew His agenda. In this text, Jesus sets the record straight. His only desire what that God might be glorified.
