  • Preaching From Philippians (1 Of 8)

Contributed by Dr. Odell Belger on Mar 31, 2022
     | 1,852 views

In Paul’s writings, his greetings varied from church to church. He made the greetings fit the church he was addressing and the things he wanted to talk about.

For example, when he wrote to the Corinthians he stated that he was an Apostle in his greetings. Look at 1 Cor. 1:1 “Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother.” He did not mention that he was an Apostle in his address to the Philippians! He ...read more

It is surprising, and sad, that the only testimony (in effect) on Jesus’ behalf during the trial was made, not by any of Jesus’ disciples, nor apostles, nor followers, but by Pilate’s wife.

Pilate's Wife Matt. 27:11-26 The chief priests with the elders and scribes and the whole council of the Sanhedrin had decided to put Jesus to death. They had Jesus brought before Pilate the governor to pronounce the death sentence. (Mark 15:1; Luke 22:66; 23:1) Pontius Pilate was the fifth ...read more

OPEN: I read from a Children’s book the story of Cain and Abel. You know, it’s odd - we ALL seem to know the story about Cain and Abel. But Cain gets more “PRESS” from Scripture than Abel does. Cain is mentioned in 18 verses but Abel ONLY gets 11 verses (about 1/3 less attention). But the PRESS ...read more

If you aren’t actively seeking out or using your gifts to build up the body of Christ, why not? It’s why you were made.

I love bumper-sticker theology. And one of my favorites is, “Life is hard try reading the instructions.” Those of you who have assembled toys or furniture may have discovered this principle the hard way. I’ve neglected to count the parts. I’ve put things together upside down and backwards. When I ...read more
