Christmas was both a night of silence and a night of song. If you read through the Christmas hymns in a hymnal you will see these two themes stand out often, some with a focus on the silence and others with a focus on the song.

It has been called a Trojan horse song because it seems like it will be a love song between God and His people. Isaiah gets the attention of God’s people with this song. The people listened to and loved the song only to find they themselves are the scoundrel referred to in this song.

Even while others are facing judgment the saved will praise God. The joy of salvation is wonderfully expressed in a song. Salvation causes us to rejoice and praise God. This is very appropriately expressed in song.
