Christmas Message: We have not grown weary of this ancient story. A baby in a manger. Shepherds in a field. Why do the events in a small Jewish village more than 2000 years ago still intrigue the human mind and soul? The incarnation... God taking upon

    based on 1 rating

As we prepare for Christmas, we must not be guilty of leaving Jesus in the manger. While I am thankful for His birth in Bethlehem, I also rejoice for Calvary. Jesus came with purpose - to die for our sin and reconcile us to God. He was born to die.

The Reality of His Birth John 12: 27; 32 We are entering that wonderful time of year surrounding Christmas. No doubt it continues to generate a lot of excitement among young and old. "The Empty Manger" is about a guy who noticed the nativity display at his church was missing the baby Jesus. Everything else was there but the most important piece was missing. In life, everything else can be there but if Jesus is missing it's incomplete.

JESUS IS MISSING! INTRODUCTION: The Empty Manger. "A number of years ago, the church I attend set up a very nice nativity set in the front of our sanctuary during the four weeks leading up to Christmas, when we observe Advent. The wise men, shepherds, livestock, angels, Joseph, and Mary had all ...read more

  • Decaf Christmas? Series

Contributed by Chris Appleby on Feb 23, 2015
     | 5,096 views

The reason we decaffeinate Christmas is because we don’t want Jesus intruding on our lives. Don’t want to admit that we need help. Little baby Jesus is OK, but he’d better not get out of the manger.

This week a number of articles have come out, commenting on the push to get Christ out of Christmas. The best I read called this the decaffeination of Christmas. Carols that are all about trees, snow, reindeer, not about a baby born in a manger. Why do we do this? For some the story of ...read more

The Incarnation took immense planning; a righteous virgin and a carpenter from an obscure town, a pagan emperor taking a census, a journey, a manger, the family lineage. All of these had to be in place and timed perfectly. We serve a great God! PTL!!

Scripture Reading: Luke 2:1-7 Please find this passage in your Bibles. “O Little Town of Bethlehem” – sing the first verse A Cappella as the folks find the Scripture reading for the day. We love that little Christmas song, don’t we? Let’s go ahead and read from the ...read more

The hope of Christmas is not a sentimental hope… it’s filled with sentiments of a child born in a manger… of becoming one with us… of making the world a better place… but we must shake off the sentimental hope to take hold of the substance… the prophe

  • Looking For God In The Wrong Places

Contributed by Jim Butcher on Dec 20, 2017
     | 8,679 views

The sermon focuses on the unimpressive sign the angels point to: a baby in a manger. Not much that's flashy about that. What are the ways that God comes into our lives that don't initially look impressive but are important and meaningful.

That’s All You’ve Got? Taken at face value, the angel’s sign is pretty unimpressive. - Luke 2:12. - Luke 4:17-21; Luke 4:41; Luke 5:14; Luke 13:18-21; 1 Corinthians 1:26-30. - We get entranced by the Christmas story and the swaddling clothes and manger and don’t see it for what it is. In fact, ...read more
