Joseph was separated from his family at the age of 17 not because of war, but because of the wicked jealousy of his own brothers. In their jealousy they sold Joseph into slavery and presented his ornamented coat to their father. God used this for his purposes.

A popular television feature is to find a situation where a family has been separated because of war or some tragedy. The show does research to find out where the missing family members are. Our circumstances distort our perspective. Troubles come on everyone. They came on Jacob; they will come on us. We can easily lose perspective and make things seem worse than they really are. Jacob vowed to go down to the grave mourning Joseph and Joseph was not even dead.

A Change Of Name

We read in the Scriptures of how God changed the names of some persons (such as Abram, Jacob and Peter). This change of name indicated God’s special purpose for them. He will give us a new name also. The new name will reflect our character.
