2. The Fall Of Man

God made Adam and Eve with a will to make a choice. They had the option of obeying God and his command or disobeying. The pull or lure to disobey is temptation. The temptation and the fall began with the serpent luring Eve to disobey God.
The Bible records that the original couple Adam and Eve were deceived by Satan and sin marred God’s creation including mankind. Noah will need to commit everything into building this ark. Every ounce of finance and time. It will take his 100% sacrifice. He must trust God at a time when no one else did. And Noah did all that the LORD commanded him

The Genesis flood is judgment of our holy God. God’s Judgment in the flood serves as a stark reminder that God is serious about his warnings. It is also a lesson in the grace of God and that God keeps his promise regarding those who are faithful to Him.

5. A New Start

We are going to look at a New Start of humanity for Noah and has family in Genesis 9:7-11. The rainbow is a fitting sign. Light must be shinning through the clouds. There can’t be a flood, light is breaking through a rainbow is formed. God has made this a sign he will not flood the world.

The Tower of Babel was a man centered plan. God supernaturally confused the languages and scattered the people. There are over 7,000 languages spoken in the world today. Pentecost was the Tower of Babel in reverse! The Holy Spirit comes to reach those separated from God by sin.
Someone says, what are you saying? I can’t understand you. You are talking nonsense. Stop babbling. You know what they are referring to right? An understanding the call of Abraham and the promise fulfilled is important to understanding the purpose of God in history. The culmination is in the fulness of time with coming of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Jesus came to make atonement the just for the unjust to bring us to God.

Abraham had some tremendous high points, but he had low points too. Knowing that will help us when you are not experiencing victory after victory. Sometimes you do not see everything you are trusting God for, and it is hard to have faith.

The story of Hagar and the birth of Ishmael teaches us about what happens when we stop waiting on God. Our man-made plans will go astray. We need to seek God in all that we do.

Abraham and Sarah must trust God. Maybe you have been praying for years for someone or something. Remember: He is El Shaddai. He is God Almighty. Nothing is too difficult for God. When our situation grows more impossible God shows himself almighty.

Here is the famous story of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Even those with no bible background know what we are talking about when we mention the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. It is the infamous fire and brimstone judgement of God passage.

Isaac is portrayed throughout his life as a man of faith like his father. When we read the account of Mount Moriah we do not specifically read the reaction of Isaac. But we get the idea. If Abraham is trusting God with this, then so would his son Isaac.

Normally the birthright goes to the firstborn son. That would be Jacob’s brother Esau. Now we will look at how Jacob manipulated the birthright for the blessing. By custom Esau was to inherit the blessings of Abraham and Isaac. This fellow Jacob stole Esau’s birthright and blessing.

Jacob the selfish man, whose life without God led him to desperation, reached a point where he needed the Lord. Often that is when God breaks through to a person. God spoke to Jacob through a dream. We call that dream, Jacob’s ladder.

Jacob came out of the womb grasping to the heal of his older twin brother Esau. His name meant grasping. Figuratively his name meant deceiver. Jacob deceived his father Isaac into thinking he was Esau so he would receive the blessing intended for Esau.

Peniel was a place where Jacob reached brokenness. He lost all self-sufficiency and depended completely on God. This was a time for Jacob of genuine soul searching and spiritual struggle. It was also a significant time of knowing God’s grace.
A profession of faith in Christ is not an end in itself. It is the beginning of a pilgrimage. Along the way there will be defining moments and spiritual highlights. After Jacob wrestles with God and becomes Israel he must face his brother Esau He fled from him 20 years earlier. Prayer can break down the barriers. It was sin that made the two brothers enemies. It was God’s grace that made the two enemies brothers.

Joseph did not need to wait until he was standing before Pharaoh and put in charge of the whole land. Faithfulness to God is always the right path. Joseph needed to trust God the whole time he was the forgotten prisoner. And he did!

Joseph was separated from his family at the age of 17 not because of war, but because of the wicked jealousy of his own brothers. In their jealousy they sold Joseph into slavery and presented his ornamented coat to their father. God used this for his purposes.
A popular television feature is to find a situation where a family has been separated because of war or some tragedy. The show does research to find out where the missing family members are. Our circumstances distort our perspective. Troubles come on everyone. They came on Jacob; they will come on us. We can easily lose perspective and make things seem worse than they really are. Jacob vowed to go down to the grave mourning Joseph and Joseph was not even dead.

At the end of life and facing death Joseph is the story of a victorious faith. Hebrews 11 is the hall of faith chapter. In the faith hall of fame are Joseph’s father Jacob, his grandfather Isaac, his great grandfather Abraham.
