Had you gone to Jerusalem that day so long ago, and had you gone just outside the wall to the north, out through the Damascus gate, there you would have seen a rocky hill. And on that hill, you would have seen three crosses, with the men on those crosses.

Today, we both celebrate and mourn the loss of our friend, Jim. A great father and husband as well as a pillar of our church for many years. On the way to the cross the women of Jerusalem weep over His alarming & appalling judgment. Jesus advises them to turn their anguish for Him into mourning for themselves. Such sever rejection of the beloved Son of God puts an individual or society on a course that brings its own judgment.

Christ is sentenced to be crucified. He was forced to carry the heavy cross, but as the procession neared the gate, He succumbed to exhaustion and fell to the ground, unable to go any further. The cross is then forced upon one Simon of Cyrene.
