  • What Is Prayer About

Contributed by Daren Mitchell on Sep 17, 2012
     | 3,474 views

Prayer is not an antidote to worry. Have you ever prayed about a stressful situation just to discover that you’re still worried about it? Faith is the antidote to worry. Prayer is about asking God for the supernatural.

I would like for you to consider for a moment if God appeared to you and said, “The people of Kabul Afghanistan are ready to hear about my Son Jesus and I want you to be the messenger to go speak of His resurrection and offer of grace.” Would you go? Would you go, knowing, that ...read more

It would be my guess that the most powerful prayer that Jonah ever prayed was in the belly of a fish. It’s possible that the most powerful prayer you have ever prayed was when you were in trouble as well. If crisis drives us to pray that's a good thing!

When it’s hard to pray, Pray Harder! Jonah 2:1-10 Sometimes what you think might do you in will be the one thing that saves you. Sometimes the worst possible thing that can happen to you is exactly what you need. Sometimes the thing you fear the most is the very thing that will turn your ...read more

In Jonah, chapter two, we read about how Jonah repented of his rebellion and was restored to a place right fellowship with God.

Last time, we looked to chapter one, where we learned about the true nature of rebellion - rebellion involves our choosing to no longer walk with God but to run away from God. We also learned that the terrible consequences of rebellion are that we experience a loss of fellowship as well as a loss ...read more

Out of desperation Jonah offers a foxhole prayer; with no repentance, blaming God, self-righteousness and false piety. God's mercy still continues to be shown to Jonah as God rescues Jonah. It is an unanticipated outcome.

Message Jonah 2:1-10 Rescued by a Merciful God The story is told of an emergency meeting of the church council called by the senior pastor. At the end of the meeting with nothing accomplished, the pastor looked around and then said, “There’s nothing left to do but to pray!” One of the overseers ...read more

Psalms 140:13 - Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence. Sermon Illustration: This is a true story not just an illustration. Prayers from the Deep (Part 1) Jonah 1:17 – 2:10 We have come to the most familiar portion of the book of Jonah. • Jonah's Song Of Repentance Series

Contributed by Billy Ricks on Sep 29, 2013
    based on 1 rating

We too often believe the lie that things are meant to destroy us. Whether a violent storm or big fish what we think is meant to destroy us is actually designed by God to develop us.

Intro: Think about this as we look at chapter 2 of Jonah. What did Jonah deserve? He deserved to be a man taco for a big fish. What did he get? God’s mercy. Jonah had already received God’s grace. God did not completely destroy Jonah or the Ship in the violent storm. God as a ...read more
