Matthew 13: 24-30 is a parable that Jesus spoke. A Parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. What Jesus is doing in the parables is taking some aspect of the actions of God and comparing that to something that is earthly so we can come to some understanding of the purposes of God.

In the Parable of the Weeds, we are told a story about a man who did evil against another man and the way he did this was through planting weeds in the man’s garden. The seeds of grain grew, but so did the weeds that the evil man had planted. Jesus may have used this example because the hearers ...read more

God dedicated 57 verses to a wicked judge who ruled as king in Israel for about 3 years. Why would He do that? Is it possible the story of this evil man has something to us about how we should think as Christians?

OPEN: In Clay County, Kentucky there was a judge named R. Cletus Maricle. He was one of the rare judges I could find online who had been permanently disbarred. You might ask: “Jeff, why was he disbarred?” I’m glad you asked. R. Cletus Maricle was disbarred because he and 7 other ...read more

What Paran was supposed to be for the Children of Israel. 1. A Place to Catch a New Vision of God’s Promise for Them. They had seen it from far but now they could view it up close. 2. A Place to Taste of Sample of What God Had in Store for them. Not only look but actually taste and see that ...read more

Comparing Israel’s release from captivity with the soul set free.

Intro: being a writer I always wonder where someone got their inspiration when they wrote a poem, song or sermon. There is a popular song among the youth with these lines, I’m trading my sorrow, I’m trading my pain, I’m laying them down for the joy of the Lord. As I was reading Psalms 126–it seems ...read more

  • Seven Sons Of Sceva Series

Contributed by John Lowe on Dec 24, 2020

It was common, especially among the Jews, for individuals to attempt to cast out evil spirits. If we resist the devil by faith in Christ, he will flee from us; but if we think we can resist him by using Christ's name, or His deeds, as a spell or charm, Satan will prevail against us.

Evil spirits have affected people for many years. A group of seven men, claiming to have power to cast out demons, came to Ephesus and got a lot more than they bargained for! Then look at what happened next.

Introduction: This episode took place after Paul had begun a healing ministry, sending aprons or handkerchiefs to people who needed them (Acts 19:11-12). Note, this was a one-time occurrence, never repeated anywhere else in the Bible so far as I can determine. Someone once remarked that what the ...read more

New Sermon Series, "But God ..." on how God intervenes in human history. Today's message is how God uses adversity and suffering for our good and His glory.

Ever since the Garden of Eden, there have been those that question the existence of God. Many who acknowledge that God exist, will say that God is distant. He set the universe in motion and then stepped back to see what happens. A few years ago (1990) there was a popular song sung by Bette Midler ...read more

It is foolish to talk about the good old days of the church. The church never did live in good days, and never has, for the present evil age covers all days from Paul's time to ours

Sam Levenson told of how his father took the 6 children, chained hand to hand, through a museum. Suddenly, in irritation at the slowness of their progress, he said, "Look kids, if you're gonna stop and look at everything, you ain't gonna see nothin." Anyone who has been in a ...read more

Ah … it’s a familiar story. Eve is strolling through the beautiful Garden of Eden when she is surprised by a talking snake. “Hey, how ya doing?” “Fine.” “What ya doin?” “Oh, Adam and I are just walking around … taking in the beauty of God’s creation.” “Oh, yeah?
