[290]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – THE ROMAN HARLOT OF REVELATION 17
This poem has its setting in Revelation chapter 17. Some of the expressions are taken from that chapter which I draw upon.
Some find revelation 17 a mystery but there is no mystery to it when it is all placed in context. This is the context. In the Tribulation there are three sets of judgements – the Seals, the Trumpets, and the Bowls. They are all horrible for even then man refuses to repent, even though God openly sends the judgements.
{{Revelation 9:20-21 “The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, so as not to worship demons, and the idols of gold and of silver and of brass and of stone and of wood which can neither see nor hear nor walk, and they did not repent of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their immorality, nor of their thefts.”}}
Chapter 16 are the Bowl judgements, the worst ones. This is just one of those – {{Revelation 16:8-9 “The fourth angel poured out his bowl upon the sun and it was given to it to scorch men with fire, and men were SCORCHED WITH FIERCE HEAT, and they blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues and they did not repent, so as to give Him glory.”}}. Strongs gives the meaning of “fierce heat” as “intense heat” and the word intense means “large, great, in the widest sense.”
Chapter 16 ends the judgements on the world but three more judgements remain. The first is in Chapter 17 which is the judgement against the great whore - “BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH”. This is the great satanic religious system of the False Prophet that operates in the Tribulation over the whole earth. It will be satanic and drug-induced, adopting some of the filth of religion from old Babylon.
I must say that many students and writers have identified this harlot and Babylon the Great as the Roman Catholic church because of some of the descriptions. However the Roman Catholic Church will not be operating as that church in the Tribulation. After the Rapture all religions of the world (including the Catholic Church) come together under the False Prophet with headquarters in Rome. It will probably be in the Vatican. This is Rome – {{Revelation 17:9 “Here is the mind which has wisdom. The seven heads are SEVEN MOUNTAINS on which the woman sits”}}. That was the way of describing Rome (the city of the 7 hills).
Another reference to Rome in a cryptic way is this – {{Revelation 17:18 “The woman whom you saw is THE GREAT CITY, WHICH REIGNS OVER THE KINGS OF THE EARTH.”}} Religious Babylon is destroyed in Revelation 17, but in chapter 18, it is Commercial Babylon that comes under the judgement of God. All that happens very, very, very close to the Second Coming which is the last of the three remaining judgements – the great battle of Armageddon.
The Roman Catholic Church has images and adornments, Babylonian in nature, that are just like this verse – {{Revelation 17:4 “and the woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a gold cup full of abominations and of the unclean things of her immorality.”}}. If you are interested in learning all about this read a book called “The Two Babylons” by Alexander Hislop.
You will find it here but I think the illustrations have been removed - https://archive.org/details/the_two_babylons_alexander_hislop.pdf/mode/2up
The Tribulation Church is Satan’s church – filthy and horrible. I suggest you read through Revelation 17 in conjunction with this poem. This is long enough so I will leave it go there.

THE ROMAN HARLOT OF REVELATION 17
The colour is scarlet -
A whore! A harlot!
A hellish starlet!
Mother of trouble!
A blood-red bubble!
==========
Immoral fornicator!
Political instigator!
Wretched perpetrator!
Of doctrine insidious -
Of power invidious -
==========
Blood-drunk with martyrs -
As evil as Tartars -
With hatred to part us!
O wicked scene!
A Beast-borne Queen!
==========
Invitingly she lies -
With arms to the skies -
Fetid air with amorous cries!
A body displayed
On the bed arrayed!
==========
Come up above,
To your bed of love,
With this scarlet dove!
Come, filthy kings!
Your harlot sings!
==========
Iniquitous source!
Foul intercourse!
Indecent divorce!
Foulness of unity!
Filled with iniquity!
==========
Unite the State -
Blacken the faith -
Refuse to wait!
Lies you exhibit!
Facts you prohibit!
==========
Sickly sweet wine!
Sinful sick vine!
Satanic line!
Descendant of Nimrod!
You’ve bloodied earth’s sod!
==========
You’ve hunted God’s own
To establish your throne
To rule alone!
Your golden cup
Is now filled up!
==========
Babylon’s vomit -
Look not upon it!
Flee from it!
False inventor!
Bloody tormentor!
==========
Your hills number seven,
Reaching to heaven!
Filthy leaven!
She sits secure,
While saints endure!
==========
God brings low
This murderous foe!
Then all will know!
Queen of fornications!
No longer rules the nations!
==========
Smoke in palls!
Speed the calls!
Babylon falls!
Kings then wail!
Their spirits fail!
==========
Gone filthy whore
Through hell’s door!
For ever more!
Rejoice! Rejoice! Rejoice!
Praise with exultant voice!
==========
