[173]. A Message From A Poem – Look Up Look Up

[173]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – LOOK UP LOOK UP
Two lines I wrote in the poem are:-
“Your heart is where your mind is set.
Your mind is what your heart has fixed.”
This is not a circular argument and is allied with this verse – {{Colossians 3:2 “SET YOUR MIND on the things above, not on the things that are on earth”}}. Too many of us are earthly minded with little thought being given to things above. We must see heavenly things or as Paul put it - {{Colossians 3:1 “If then you have been raised up with Christ, KEEP SEEKING THE THINGS ABOVE, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”}}
This poem is a plea to keep looking up, to look to Christ, not to follow fleshly, sinful desires or the wisdom of this world that Paul declared to be foolishness. Our attention is to be on heavenly matters.
Two more lines are these:-
“You are the sum of what your intake is.
Be light or dark – they can’t be mixed.”
This is a practical poem. If you keep looking up to the Lord Jesus you are made more and more in His likeness. If you look down to base things you become an ineffectual Christian. LOOK UP! LOOK UP!
=============================================================
LOOK UP LOOK UP
Look up, look up, look up higher.
Look up, up, but do not look down.
Aim your sights on a higher horizon.
Look up, so you don’t wear a frown.
========================
What is good, there focus your eyes.
What is bad, don’t apprehend it.
Look upwards to the higher horizon.
Your concentration there, must sit.
========================
By looking down you see turmoil.
Maggots are bred in what’s putrid.
Do not linger and watch them multiply.
Look up, away from what’s rancid.
========================
Goodness engenders peace and hope;
It does not corrupt or destroy.
Goodness from above won’t contaminate.
Look up! Its qualities employ.
========================
Your heart is where your mind is set.
Your mind is what your heart has fixed.
You are the sum of what your intake is.
Be light or dark – they can’t be mixed.
========================
Follow not your flesh desires.
Look up to Christ, our Helper strong.
Look always above to the Great High Priest,
The Redeemer, who did no wrong.
========================
Look up! Look up! And know God’s grace.
Now fix your mind on things above.
Look not down to earthly things to distract,
But look up higher to God’s love.

If I Had Just Looked Up

The imagery of this Psalm is meant to give a sense of the comprehensive care of God for those who look to him. I must admit the most challenging times of my life, happened when I failed to “Just Look Up.”
