We must avoid a famine like is mentioned in Amos 8:11. He calls it a famine of God’s Word. Instead long for God’s Word like a newborn baby longs for milk. Why? Because God’s Word is powerful! God’s Word causes spiritual growth.

God's grace is available to all, but many receive this grace and pervert it. They turn the grace of God to a licence to commit immorality and do wickedness in our society. The consequences for those who despise, frustrate and pervert God's grave are severe.

James compares the Word of God to a mirror because you look into a mirror to be able to see yourself in effort to make changes to your appearance. Looking in the Holy Scriptures is like looking in a mirror. It reveals to us as God sees what’s in us.
