  • It Is A Love Story

Contributed by Carl Greene on Feb 17, 2009

Is the story about healing the Leper just about physical healing? Or is there more to the story? Most translations use the word "clean" ... not "healed." But could this "clean" mean "forgiveness" of sin? Mark Chapter 2 suggests it may be.

I confess to you how I struggled with the scripture this morning. I struggled because when I first read this scripture, I wondered “how can I preach about this “healing” when I know we have people in our congregation who are good, faithful servants, disciples of Jesus Christ, yet who are suffering ...read more

Trading Spaces Mark 1:39-45 A couple of weeks ago we looked at how Mark describes the first Synagogue incident. The people were amazed a Jesus teaching style. It was unique and authoritative. God loves us and shows it to us in many ways throughout the Old Testament, Gospels and Epistles. This sermon deals with how Jesus shows His love for us by cleansing us.

So the story we read today in Mark, also recorded in Matthew 8 and in Luke 5, is a wonderful example of Jesus’ love for the unlovable. All throughout Scripture we see that God has a tender sensitivity for the outcast, the hurting, the sorrowful and the desperate. I said last week how He is ...read more

Because Jesus lived on earth as a man, he typically experienced human limitations. His human side needed a balance between rest and ministry (work), and he was not afraid to say no.

Enough is Enough: Too Much Ministry (Mark 1:29-45) 1. This last week was different. Marylu and I went to visit Bruce and Joyce Moore. 2. We met them in 1984, back when I was 27. They were still in Ecuador, and we would see them every or every other year. When Hannah was young, she dubbed them ...read more

This sermon deals with how Jesus touched the untouchables and what that means for the church in a world of untouchables.

The Right Touch Mark 1:40-45 5/18/08 PSCOC Introduction: Sayonara! We have increasingly become a culture of less touching. We are likely to greet one another here with handshakes and mild side-hugs! Yet, in culture at large there is uneasiness about touching in general. Maybe that is because ...read more

Jesus heals the leper that he may experience the joy of being restored to those that love him. Here we are challenged to work for healing and restoration in the world, with the compassion of Christ

Mark 1:40-45 ‘Jesus – the Healing, Restoring Compassion of God’ I wonder how many of you enjoy going to the theatre, the cinema, or perhaps watching TV drama? You may think you're too sick, too vile, too sinful, too far gone for Jesus to help; that you'll clean up your act first, and then come to Jesus. It’s a good thing that the leper didn’t wait until he was clean to beg Jesus for a touch.

INTRODUCTION For the past six weeks we counted down the last 94 hours of the life of Jesus before the discovery of the empty tomb on Easter morning. In this message I’m going to resume my verse- by-verse study of the Gospel According to Mark. This series is entitled, “The reMARKable ...read more

Contributed by John Gaston on May 1, 2017
     | 10,421 views

Jesus touched a leper but He didn't get leprosy, rather the leper got Jesus. Why? Because Jesus was contagious with a strain from Heaven, which, when caught, replicates Jesus in the lives of those who catch it! We need to pass it on!

I heard about a “preacher’s kid” who was told by his mother that he should wash his hands because there were germs living in all the dirt he’d been playing in. 2. He looked up at ...read more

  • Leper Healed; His Response Series

Contributed by John Lowe on Jul 10, 2017

Leprosy was believed to be God’s chastisement for sins that were committed by the person. That type of thinking removed compassion and sympathy for the leper. They were likely to be stoned, if they got too close.

Mark 1: 40 And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 41 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. 42 And as soon as he had spoken, ...read more
