In it David appeals to a righteous God to send judgment upon the enemies of God, and the persecutors of His righteous people. WHY DID DAVID PRAY SUCH A PRAYER? Psalm 35 is another of David’s imprecatory prayers. In it David appeals to a righteous God to send judgment upon the enemies of God, and the persecutors of His righteous people.

WHY DID DAVID PRAY SUCH A PRAYER? It is believed that since Old Testament characters did not have the benefit of the New Testament, they did not have a complete revelation of the judgment seat of Christ. Therefore they believe the wicked had to be judged and to be rewarded in this life for ...read more

  • David’s 911 Call For Help! (2 Of 2)

Contributed by Dr. Odell Belger on Jan 4, 2022

We want to look again at the imprecatory prayer of David in Psalm 35. Anytime a preacher preaches about an imprecatory prayer he has to be careful. He has to be careful because it would be easy to convey to people that we can use God to strike back at our enemies.

This is not what the Bible teaches. In fact, it teaches just the opposite. Look at Matthew 5:44, “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.” I do not know anything in a ...read more

In the first chapter of 2 Samuel, David receives news that King Saul — the man who tried to kill him, who obsessed over destroying him — has died. If anyone could celebrate, it would be David.

Saul’s Death and David’s Lament October 29, 2025 Dr. Bradford Reaves Crossway Christian Fellowship 2 Samuel 1 Tonight we begin the Book of 2 Samuel, although technically nothing “new” begins here. The original Hebrew canon knew one unified scroll called Samuel. The split into 1 and 2 Samuel only ...read more

David becomes King by God’s plan but as a result of a series of events which are sometimes ungodly in nature. God is able to use ungoldy actions by sinful men and women to bring about his good purposes in history.

I think it’s easy to have a romantic view of the history of David as King of Israel. It’s such a great story isn’t it? The good looking shepherd boy who becomes king. The youngest son who is chosen and anointed by God to lead his people. The young lad who defeats the battle seasoned giant Goliath. ...read more
