Chosen Genesis 50:15-26 The beginning of Genesis shows a continuing widening chasm between man and God. Go ahead and have a good cry, and let your tears draw you closer to God and to others.

Real men DO cry at times, but there are rules. Recently, GQ magazine shared those rules in a humorous article actually written by a woman. She said, “Male crying is not new. It's been happening for as long as men have had eyeballs. But it was almost always done behind at least three closed doors.” ...read more

The power to forgive past offenses and create a better future is powerfully demonstrated by Joseph. How did he do it? He says, "Am I in the place of God," and "God intended it for good."

LETTING GO AND MOVING ON—Genesis 50:12-21 A few years ago, I was visiting the town where I grew up, and I ran into someone I had never met, who knew my sister. As we made the connection, she asked me, “Are you the brother who pulled her doll in half?” Well, I guess I was pulling on the legs of her ...read more

  • The Forgiveness Of Joseph

Contributed by Kimberly Belken on Aug 30, 2020

Though Joseph's brothers intended to harm him, God intended to work through their actions for good. Ultimately this truth allowed Joseph to forgive his brothers. Forgiveness may sometimes be a decision we have to make but we can do so trusting that God will work good through it.

Like last week, we have skipped ahead a few generations in Genesis to get to today’s reading. So to quickly summarize, Abraham, whose deep desire for a son we heard about in last week’s reading, fathered a son by the name of Isaac. Isaac was the father of two children, Esau and Jacob. Jacob or ...read more

But that principle does not apply to the story of Joseph in Genesis. In fact, the example of how Joseph succeeded and was used by God is the opposite of the Peter Principle. It is enough different that it deserves its own name. It can be called the Joseph Principle.

Forgiveness isn’t counted but lived—when we release others, God releases us, mercy triumphs, and faith regains its power to move mountains.

Mercy triumphs over judgment — that’s what the Word of God says. And if we’re honest, every one of us here needs mercy. We’ve needed it before, we’ll need it again before the day’s over. If it weren’t for the mercy and compassion of God, where would we be? Utterly consumed. Gone. Done for. But His ...read more
