Scars That Never Go Away
Contributed by Darrell Jones on Mar 19, 2003 (message contributor)
Summary: Even though we are saved and our sins are forgiven, we can still bear scars that are a direct result of choices we have made.
Read the story of David’s moral failure.
Notice even after David acknowledged his sin he still paid the consequences. It was a scar that would not heal.
Introduction: the Bible in 1st Peter 5:8 tells us "the devil as a roaring lion is seeking whom he may devour or destroy, and we are to be on our guard."
his purpose in temptation is to put a scar on you that you’ll never get over. he never shows you the finished product.
Notice with me, Scars That Never Go Away
(1) The Scars Left On Youth
(A) The devil will have you live it up
Eat, drink, and be merry. As long as it is not hurting, anyone what does it matter.
(a) The Drug User
The adddict will tell you, "It’s my body." The devil never shows the person bound by the habit coming down off of a high.
(Ill.) Several years ago a young man we knew was found dead in his clothes closet. He had choked to death on his own vomit, his friends said he had hid in the closet after a night of smoking pot and drinking, because he was afraid something was after him.
(b) The Sexual Deviate
The devil never shows those bound by immorality the sickness and disease brought about by a life of promiscuity.
(c) The Single Family Homes
Unwed parents, lesbian and sodomite relationships are destroying the foundation of family life in the United States and the children are left with Scars That Will Not Go Away.
(d) Marriage Outside The Faith
The Bible admonishes us, "Be not unequally yoked."
(1Tim. 4:1-2) "In the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, speaking lies in hypocrisy and having their conscience seared with a hot iron."
(2) The Scars Left By the Failure Of Parents
(A) Failure in our Christian living
(a) Not dedicated: to home, church or each other.
Divorce is a result of the lack of dedication between husband and wife.
(b) Not decisive in matters of discipline.
(Proverbs 22:6) "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
(Ill.) A friend of mine said, "the reason he didn’t go to church was because when he was little his mom made him go." I said, "she also made you use toothpaste when you brushed your teeth, she made you use soap when you bathed, aren’t you glad you still follow mom’s advice? I know I’m glad you do."
Where Is The Family Altar? Where Is The Blessing At Meal time?
WE TRAIN BY DOING! If serving God is not important to you, it will not be important to your children.
(c) Parents Raise Your Children In Church!
AM PM and Mid week services, you can’t allow them to make the choice, after all, you are the parent! You will answer to God on matters pertaining to how you raised your children.
(3) The Scars On Believers
(A) David- Our text
(a) He never got over the sin (Psalms 51:3)
(b) The wound healed- but the scar remained
(c) Illicit love left a scar--- he simply let sin go too far, he never got over it.
