Go! and Receive Healing and Restoration
Isaiah 53:5-6 (NLT)
Introduction: The Beauty and Power of Redemption
We gather here today under the mighty truth of the Gospel, the greatest message ever proclaimed—the message of salvation, healing, and restoration through Jesus Christ. The cross is more than just a symbol; it is the place where love conquered sin, where mercy triumphed over judgment, and where our healing was secured forever.
Today, I want us to go deeper into the meaning of the cross. Not just to understand it intellectually, but to receive it personally, to experience the transformation it brings, and to leave this place fully restored in Christ.
Let’s begin by reading our foundational passage today, from Isaiah 53:5-6:
"But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins.
He was beaten so we could be whole.
He was whipped so we could be healed.
All of us, like sheep, have strayed away.
We have left God’s paths to follow our own.
Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all."
This prophecy was given 700 years before Jesus was even born. Yet it describes, with remarkable accuracy, the suffering and purpose of the Messiah. Jesus Christ fulfilled this prophecy completely!
So today, let’s explore this passage together under three key themes:
Go! And See the Cost of Your Redemption
Go! And Receive the Healing of Your Soul
Go! And Walk in the Freedom Christ Purchased for You
1. GO! AND SEE THE COST OF YOUR REDEMPTION
Isaiah begins with these words:
"But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins."
The Hebrew word used for "pierced" is "chalal" (?????), meaning to be wounded fatally, to be profaned, to be violated. It points directly to the brutal crucifixion that Jesus endured—His hands and feet pierced by nails, His side pierced by a Roman spear.
The word "crushed" is "daka" (??????), meaning to be crushed, broken, or shattered into pieces. This is not just physical suffering; it speaks of Jesus being completely broken under the weight of our sins.
The Fulfilment of Prophecy
Zechariah 12:10 – "They will look on me whom they have pierced and mourn for him as for an only son. They will grieve bitterly for him as for a firstborn son who has died."
Jesus was literally pierced on the cross. This was foretold centuries before His crucifixion!
John 19:34 – "One of the soldiers, however, pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water flowed out."
This was not just a normal death—Jesus died as the Lamb of God, fulfilling the Passover sacrifice (Exodus 12:46).
The Cost of Freedom
There is a story of a young boy who built a beautiful model boat. One day, the boat was lost in a river. He searched for it everywhere. Then, one day, he saw it in a shop window. He went in, and the shopkeeper said, “If you want it, you must pay the price.” The boy bought back his own boat and said, “Now you are twice mine—once because I made you, and now because I bought you.”
That is what Jesus did for us! He made us, and He bought us back with His blood.
What Does This Mean for You?
Have you seen the cost of your redemption?
Do you realise that Jesus paid the ultimate price to bring you back to God?
Will you receive this gift with gratitude today?
2. GO! AND RECEIVE THE HEALING OF YOUR SOUL
Isaiah continues:
"He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed."
The word "whipped" here refers to the brutal scourging Jesus endured. Roman flogging was designed to rip flesh apart, exposing bones and internal organs.
Yet this was not just physical pain—it was the healing of our souls.
Healing in the Cross
1 Peter 2:24 – "He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed."
The cross didn’t just bring forgiveness; it brought healing—for our hearts, our minds, and even our bodies!
Matthew 11:28 – "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest."
Jesus invites you today to lay down your burdens and be made whole.
The Broken Mirror
Imagine a mirror that has been shattered into a thousand pieces. You look into it, and your reflection is broken. But Jesus picks up each broken piece and restores it—He does not discard us; He restores us!
What Does This Mean for You?
Are there places in your heart that need healing today?
Will you bring your brokenness to Jesus and let Him restore you?
3. GO! AND WALK IN THE FREEDOM CHRIST PURCHASED FOR YOU
