When you appear before a holy God, you would no more approach Him than you would walk into shark-infested waters. When God appears in front of you and you tremble in awestruck fear, it is a wise thing to call for a mediator to stand between you and He.

This commandment is first; it’s before all the others. When you break any other of the Ten Commandments, you’ve broken this command first.

4. Don't Take God's Name In Vain

God’s name is sacred. It’s not that His name is magical. It’s not that the three letters of His name to be used for incantations. It’s because His name represents His essence.

I want to change your thinking when it comes to God’s command for one day of rest. I want you to think more about what you are commanded to do rather than what you are not commanded to do.

6. Honor Your Father And Mother

This is not a commandment for children’s church. It’s not as if we have nine grown-up commandments –dealing with the things like adultery and murder – and He threw one in for the kids. This commandment is for all of us, adults and children.

The Bible’s opening plotlines show the firstborn man, Cain, killing his brother Abel. Think of it: the firstborn person in the human race was a murderer.

Adultery is a more heinous sin because adultery betrays the emotional-psychological intimacy that especially connects a husband and wife.

In a national time of revival in the country of Belfast in 1922-23, converted shipyard workers brought back tools and equipment they had stolen. They brought them back in such quantity, that an additional storage shed had to be built to hold the tools once stolen.
