No Tents In Heaven!
Contributed by Dr. David Hallum on Jun 24, 2016 (message contributor)
I am not a camper. I spent one miserable weekend as a kid in an old, smelly canvas tent. It was designed to sleep 10, but 2 adults and 2 kids kicked, punched and threw sand all over one another all night. And that was while we were asleep. As I said, it was a miserable weekend.
When I became pastor of my first church, one of the men invited me and another church member to go fishing for three days. I asked him if there was a tent involved and he assured me there was not. However, when we arrived at our fishing destination, there was an old school bus that has been converted into a camper. I walked into that bus which had its doors and windows open and said, “No way, Jose! There’s way too many friendly and unfriendly reptiles around here for me!” I slept in the truck with the camper shell. May I tell you that slept quite well for those three days?!
So why am I blabbing on and on about tents and campers? Tents and campers are temporary and we do not expect to live our lives in tents or campers. May I tell you, my friends, that this is true both in the physical and spiritual realm.
Let us begin this morning with the definitions of the term “tabernacle”.
