Any study of Biblical biographies can help us in our spiritual walk by giving us examples that we can emulate … or serve as a warning or a cautionary tale.There are many, many characters in the Bible we never hear of who have a lot to teach us
You know … there are so many familiar characters in the Bible. There’s God, of course … and Jesus. There’s Adam and Eve … Noah … Moses ... Samson … David … Solomon … Peter … John … Paul. Such a small word … just three letters … b-u-t. A small word that we use a hundred times or more a day. “But” … it’s a word that can have dire consequences. Imagine getting hard labor for 40 years for one word … “but” … “b-u-t” … and not just for you but for your whole family too.
When I was growing up in upstate New York, in the summer we would go to swim in an icy glacial lake called “Green Lake.” Deep … almost 200 feet deep … and crystal clear. Tabitha stands as the Biblical model of “servant evangelism." What makes this form of evangelism is that it is so authentic. It has the ability to touch people that nobody else can reach. Humble service. This is what draws people to you … to the Christ in you.
Some people serve God by preaching to millions on the TV or radio or internet. Some people serve God by brining thousands to Christ. If you take away anything from Stephen’s message today, it should be this: Jesus is all you need. Say it with me: “Jesus is all I need.” Say it again: “Jesus is all I need!”
