Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas

Sermon Illustrations

On June 25, 1979, thirty-five year old Willard Boone from the Sandy Hook community, south of Columbia, MS, drowned in the Pearl River. During that week four others drowned along the path of the Pearl. A reporter for the then "Jackson Daily News" quoted a law offi-

cial as saying, "This is one of the most treacherous rivers in the country. People do not realize the danger along the Pearl. It’s just a crying shame so many drown in it." Christ gives plenty of

sound warnings about missing out on eternal life. Sadly, in spite of all the Bible says, preachers preach, and else, many will still choose to defy the odds and wind up in hell. [MARK 8:34-37]

In the end it’s just a "crying shame."
