[359]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – EVERYONE IS GREEDY FOR MONEY
Everyone is greedy for money and they have a multitude of schemes to acquire it. Because I am old I can remember back in the 1950s when we went shopping with mum and shopkeepers were honest and always gave you good value. In those days a lot of people in business worked on a mark-up of 10% profit.
The supermarkets in my nation are disgusting. They put the prices way up for a couple of months and them lower the prices a bit making out they are being kind to you with “lower prices” and prices “down down down.” At the same time the bottles and packages are getting smaller and smaller and lighter and lighter.
It was not all that many years ago chocolate bars were 250 grams. Then they went to 225 or 200, and now are 175 grams with the price more than twice what they were when 250 grams, and that is on a so-called special.
I have found American multinationals the worse. They have bought out so many operations in other nations and then give poor value. Smaller biscuits; fewer biscuits in the packet and other tricks such as larger packaging.
The greed of the technology companies is unbelievable. Most of these again are American. Adobe, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Photoshop, just to name 5 major ones.
Christians know the world is greedy but greed has extended into mega churches. Kenneth Copeland valued at over a billion dollars with a fleet of aircraft is the greediest one of all. He, and the other prosperity preachers, word of faith movement will suffer the wrath of God one day because of uncontrollable greed in the name of Christ while they prey on the vulnerable and poor. There are so many I could name, but hell has opened it jaws for them.
Consider the Lord of our profession – {{Matthew 8:20 and Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests but the Son of Man has NOWHERE TO LAY HIS HEAD.”}} and again this verse – {{2 Corinthians 8:9 for you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet FOR YOUR SAKE HE BECAME POOR, that you through HIS POVERTY might become rich.}}
Probably the most misquoted verse in the bible is this one – {{1 Timothy 6:9 “THOSE WHO WANT TO GET RICH fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction”}}
{{1 Timothy 6:10-11 “FOR THE LOVE OF MONEY IS A ROOT OF ALL SORTS OF EVIL, AND SOME BY LONGING FOR IT HAVE WANDERED AWAY FROM THE FAITH, and pierced themselves with many a pang, but flee from these things, you man of God and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness.”}}
Note that those verses are not written to the world but to Christians. Christians must be very careful about the trap of money. It is a vicious snare. Paul also wrote to the Hebrews – {{Hebrews 13:5 Let your character be FREE FROM THE LOVE OF MONEY, being CONTENT WITH WHAT YOU HAVE, for He Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,”}}
The riches of heaven await the child of God. Those who lust after money and riches have removed their eyes from the Lord.
The second stanza of the poem mentions Judah and conditions there. This is it – {{Jeremiah 6:13 “for from the least of them even to the greatest of them, EVERYONE IS GREEDY FOR GAIN, and from the prophet even to the priest, EVERYONE DEALS FALSELY.”}}. Where there is greed for gain, then there is automatic falsehood and corruption. And politicians are not excused either.
Two lines in the poem are these:-
“A worker is worthy of his hire,
But not with extortion to acquire.”
I needed a light to be changed in the dining room, to be replaced by the same make, a $30 light. It was an LED light and needed an electrician because they are wired in. About 5 minutes work. It was a lot easier when all we did was change light bulbs. One electrician wanted $580 and another wanted 300 and something. I finally got it done for $220 and was grossly ripped off, but what can you do? We are in the last days and greed and extortion is everywhere.
I think many of you might relate to this poem. God bless you all
==========================================================
EVERYONE IS GREEDY FOR MONEY
Everyone is greedy for money,
Grabbed by their fingers coated with honey.
What accentuated that greed in our day?
Selfishness? Or the avaricious way?
====================
Before the fall of Judah it was said
By Jeremiah; through God he was led,
That ev’ry person was greedy for gain,
With decency gone, and honesty slain.
====================
My nation is soiled by Government greed
To match wasteful spending that it must feed.
Multinationals and Corporations,
And those in financial operations
They care not for people but for profits;
And for multi-million budgets.
Businesses without souls; without a heart –
Microsoft, Apple, they share their part
In this world’s corporate business dealings;
So many more without human feelings.
====================
Here is our world that is from God divorced
And married to Satan; by him endorsed.
A world of selfishness and greed and lust –
Just normal existence for the unjust.
How many are sensitive and caring,
And truly care how others are faring?
How many look to see what they can get;
To take from others so their wants are met?
====================
A worker is worthy of his hire,
But not with extortion to acquire.
The poor are disadvantaged by the thieves.
Over such actions, the heart of God grieves.
====================
Hearts unattended will never see change;
The values of God they all count as strange.
For change, conversion is the word we use,
But for that blessing, the Saviour you choose.
====================
How rich is the man, the whole world who gains,
Yet his soul has been lost in what remains;
Decayed by riches and wanton neglect,
For he decided his God to reject.
====================
Blessed are the poor for theirs is the kingdom;
Poor in spirit where money’s not whoredom.
The old nature is greedy; selfish too;
Greedy for money; its desire true.
====================
In life, none of that is the Christian way.
At the feet of Jesus our lives we lay.
Our outlook has changed for eternity,
Because we have a new Paternity.
Yes! God is our Father; God who owns all,
Enriched by His blessings that on us do fall.
We are rich – richer than all men on earth;
Made citizens of heaven through new birth.
====================
Riches are temporary and dissolve.
Nevertheless, new, GREEDY schemes evolve
To rake in more, greed upon greed,
And accumulate this wealth with all speed.
====================
HOWEVER, godliness with contentment
Is great gain, a heavenly investment.
Have the world . . . for Jesus is my delight.
Riches of heaven before me are bright.
