[237 F] [6]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM - SCENES FROM THE GOSPELS - PART 6

They are here to enjoy! Scenes from the Gospels are very special to me. I love them. They have taken a lot of effort, and many, many months revision to get them as correct as possible with the difficult word limitations. Primarily they are meant more to be read aloud, than read silently as normal poems. They require voice flexibility and expression/intonation/varying speed.

I have placed commas in places where commas don’t normally go but they are there for a distinct short pause. The word before the pause has a more marked emphasis and the first word after the comma is emphasised on the very first syllable. It is like each line is in two short parts. There is inflection and expression in each line. For example –

See him sit, . . . . at Jesus’ feet.

Satan’s power, . . . . met defeat.

In his right mind, . . . . now discreet.

After a while you will feel a balance - I hope! There are twelve of these sections with 5 short scenes in each. The particular incidents are not named here but are done so at the end of my originals, in a table. I don’t think you will have much difficulty identifying them.

They are all written in two stanzas of six lines each with the rhyme scheme: A-A-A-B B-B. The same metre is used throughout: 7-7-7-6-6-7. I trust you will enjoy these and catch something of the excitement of these Gospel incidents.

The incidents written about are both parables and stories of Jesus.

TWENTY-SIX

That aromatic perfume,

Penetrated every room.

Previewed, the approaching tomb.

Pure, expensive nard,

For the Lord, not barred.

Nor His lovely sweetness, marred.

The scented fragrance, very meet.

Anointing there, took her seat.

With her hair, she dried His feet.

Mary shared, sweetness there,

From His feet, to her hair.

Scent of His worth, she would bear.

TWENTY-SEVEN

Gold ingots, great in value,

Fabulous sum, it was true.

Debt unpaid, and did accrue.

“Sold you are, from this day.”

“Show patience! I’ll repay.”

“Forgiven, now go your way.”

That same one, grabbed his fellow.

Seized his throat; began to bellow.

“Pay! ‘Lest to prison, you go.”

Fellow slaves, told of this.

Forgiveness, was amiss.

Slave now rots, in debtor’s niche.

TWENTY-EIGHT

“Traverse the lake, father side.”

Winds increased - a battered ride.

Lee, was none, where they could hide.

Night was late. Morning soon.

Black the night. Absent moon.

Loud shrieking howls, that wind’s tune.

Eerie wafting, met their sight.

Gave them, an horrific fright.

Apparition! Ghost of night!

Quaked in fear. Hear their cry!

Jesus walked, and came nigh.

“Take good courage. It is I.”

TWENTY-NINE

Life’s outlook’s become dreary.

Faced life’s storms, and now weary.

Heavy-laden, now teary.

“Come unto Me, all such.”

All those, who suffer much.

I’ll give rest - My special touch.

“Submit your necks, to My yoke.

Words of challenge, Jesus spoke.

Message is, for hard pressed folk.

Easy yoke, light the load.

Rest for souls, on life’s road.

Gentle Lord, not harsh with goad.

THIRTY

By the lake, two boats rested.

Fishermen, had been tested.

All that night, no catch wrested.

Nets were washed, on the shore.

Hoped they much, they’d catch more.

Mended the holes, that rocks tore.

“Launch out,” He said, “to the deep,

For to the crowds, I must speak.”

“Now your nets, a harvest reap.”

“All night, we worked for nil.

Yet Your word, obey still.”

Enclosed with fish, nets did fill.
