[174]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – I WAS WOKEN OUT OF SLEEP
11 August 2025. I had the most terrible dream. It was so involved and graphic, and it was like justice was closing in on me for some heinous crime though I knew I was innocent yet oscillating with on and off with guilt. I want to forget it. It was so unpleasant but it left me unsettled. The whole thing I want to forget. I woke abruptly around 2 am with the first four lines coming to me and I went to the computer to write this poem which I did in about 20 minutes.
It is in full blank verse with a 6 metre throughout. There is loose theme in each stanza.
What comes out of it for me? That is easy. The presence of the Lord is with me forever and Satan and his demons can do nothing to me when they try to unsettle me. {{Hebrews 13:5 Let your character be free from the love of money, being content with what you have, for He Himself has said, “I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,”}}
The Lord is my stay in all circumstances. He is with me in every trial to carry me through. We may enter the valley of death or unpleasantness, but He is with me. {{Psalm 23:3-4 “He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil for You are with me. Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”}}
We have a fearful enemy but we do not fear him for he is thoroughly defeated and can do nothing against us. {{Hebrews 2:14 “Since then the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil”}}
Jesus redeemed us, loves us, comforts us, and one day will greet us in His presence. That is how wonderful my God is!
This poem is one of the rare times I do not use rhyme. It is blank verse.
==========================================================
I WAS WOKEN OUT OF SLEEP
I want to hear those words
When I enter heaven,
“Well done my precious son,
Good and faithful servant.”
The presence of the Lord
Will be my true delight.
Jesus’ smile upon me,
Is all that I would ask.
=====================
My life is with the Lord.
My times are in His hands.
Satan tries to attack,
But meets with God’s defeat.
He comes and buffets me,
But he will never win.
My life is not my own.
It’s owned by Another.
=====================
My Lord, draw near to me.
Your comfort now I need.
Sometimes the path is strewn
With brambles and sharp thorns.
Take control of my mind.
Your assurance provides
Peace along the journey,
For the Lord walks with me.
=====================
Storms of life and darkness;
Thunder’s awful echoes;
Winds that buffet my life,
These are under control,
When the Master’s on watch,
And my whole life protects.
Nothing harms God’s children;
Precious sons and daughters.
=====================
I will never leave you.
Your life I will hold dear.
You are the one redeemed.
Come to Me My dear one.
Experience My joy.
I am fullness of joy.
I am your solid Rock.
I will not let you go.
=====================
Satan tries his scheming.
He tries to unsettle,
But all his ground is lost.
Through the cross defeated,
He has no hold on me.
The Lord is my fortress,
My strong tower of strength.
I walk the victor’s path.
=====================
No one can tell the joy;
In heaven it awaits.
The Lord’s very presence
Will be my great delight.
His glory I will taste.
His hands and feet still scarred
Shout of continued love.
Forever, Lord, I’m Yours.
