[107]. A Message From A Poem – Gospel Reflections
Contributed by Ron Ferguson on Jun 9, 2025 (message contributor)
[107]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – GOSPEL REFLECTIONS
This poem begins with reflections them moves to creation, then the death of the Lord followed by salvation and ends with a very pleasant scene in peaceful waters and sunlight.
The inspiration for this was recall of the tropical scenery around me with the creeks and waters flowing peacefully unless they are in flood that happens often in the wet tropics. The stanzas moved across various themes as if one arose from the previous one.
I don’t want to say too much about this poem and would rather that you enjoyed it.
Just picture yourself sitting quietly on a creek back with calm waters before you in sunlight and reflections across the waters. Then take it from there.
{{John 1:3 “ALL THINGS CAME INTO BEING BY HIM, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.”}}
{{Psalm 23:2 “He makes me lie down in green pastures. HE LEADS ME BESIDE QUIET WATERS.”}}
==================================================================
GOSPEL REFLECTIONS
Here I watch the water shiver,
When the wind on it does blow.
Now I see the branches quiver,
In the morning sun’s warm glow.
Painted scene landscapes the river,
With the bank’s reflected light.
Beauty there suggests a Giver,
One who demonstrates such might.
========================
Handiwork of God has spoken,
In creation’s universe.
This most certainly a token,
As if boldly set in verse.
To God’s love we must be woken,
For we sleep in ignorance. (For we sleep in disregard)
Yes, our sleep it must be broken,
To appreciate God’s stance. (Then to know what sin has marred)
========================
Everything has been created;
For God’s glory it was done.
Man was duly delegated
O’er creation. Fault there, none.
Wilful self had then negated
All perfection in the world.
Now to death man is related;
Sin’s results have been unfurled.
========================
Jesus Christ made full atonement,
When He came for us to die.
Knew the dread of deep estrangement,
With His God no longer nigh.
Then He suffered in fulfilment,
Of the written types of old.
All this brings now sweet contentment,
Makes the coward sinner bold.
========================
Then this message of salvation,
Lifts up man in this lost scene.
Clothes him with an expectation;
Paints his barren pathway green.
Tunes his heart with songs’ elation;
Praises then ascend above.
Knows the mighty transformation,
That is God’s redeeming love.
========================
Now I watch the peaceful waters,
Bathe the pathway of God’s own.
Meaning, branches from all quarters;
Sunlight glowing, from God’s throne.
Love’s sweet river never alters;
Glory that reflects the Son.
Christ, the Giver, never falters!
None compares with Him! No, none!
