[103]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – GOD SPEAKS THROUGH COLOURS

I found this a difficult poem to write. I had the desire to write a poem on colours and thought about some of the prominent colours in the bible. Then I tried to fashion the application of them to biblical objects and concepts. I hope the poem makes sense.

A quick count shows I may have used about 9 colours in the poem.

When you read the description of the New Jerusalem coming down from heaven, chapter 21 of Revelation, the colours in the brilliance of the gems must be amazing. God loves colours; that is why He made so many of them in the CREATION. Computers can have a display that staggers the mind – “An LCD panel with six-bit operation plus FRC can actually generate just 262,144 colors” “Combined, 24-bit color depth has a total of 16,777,216 color variations (2 ¬ ¬24 or 256 3), more colors than the human eye can actually discern.” You’re telling me!!!

In the Old Testament in particular, there is a lot of typology in the early books especially. To understand the Tabernacle properly you must appreciate the significance of the colours. For example:-

White – purity

Scarlet- redemption, sacrifice

Blue – heavenly

Purple – royalty.

Gold - divinity

Try to imagine the colours represented here in the New Jerusalem –

{{Revelation 21:18 The material of the wall was jasper, and the city was pure gold, like clear glass.

Revelation 21:19 The foundation stones of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation stone was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, emerald;

Revelation 21:20 the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; the twelfth, amethyst,

Revelation 21:21 and the twelve gates were twelve pearls. Each one of the gates was a single pearl, and the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.}}

{{Exodus 26:36 “You shall make a screen for the doorway of the tent of blue and purple and scarlet material and fine twisted linen, the work of a weaver.”}}

GOD SPEAKS THROUGH COLOURS

The heavens are domed in a lovely sky-blue.

The earth underneath hangs green.

Golden soft light from the slow setting sun,

Bathes gently the earth in a placid sheen.

================================

Near distant hills display glistening snow.

The rainbow arranges its hues.

Semi-circle scarlet with purple bright;

All colours say God’s promise endures.

================================

The colours contained in heaven and earth,

Bear silent testimony.

They paint the facets of God’s great design -

Draft of perfection through eternity.

================================

Rich sky-blue portrays the Lord from heaven -

Lord at His birth when He came.

He was Lord in His walk and Lord on the cross.

Exalted Lord - we worship His dear name.

================================

The gold would speak of His divinity;

His eternal nature bright.

Metallic endurance with lustre gleams -

“I AM!” The One who fills high heaven’s height.

================================

A rightful purple robe, kingship adorns.

David’s Son is Israel’s King.

King of the Jews - the Magi adored Him.

To the King of kings, grateful praises ring.

================================

Scarlet shared in the Tent’s chosen colours -

The shell’s crushed dye extracted.

For sins He was crushed and His blood was shed:

The Lamb’s blood - the price justice exacted.

================================

White is purity like purified wool -

Some blemish or spot there’s none.

Imparted purity and holiness,

Through redemption to those whose lives He won.

================================

God has been pleased to speak to us His worth

In colours He has given:

The blue and gold, purple, white and scarlet,

Reveal to us some treasures of heaven.
