[041] A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – CHRIST - OUR SUPPORT IN HURT

We can pass through stormy seas and feel like those disciples in the boat when calm gave way to anxiety, but Jesus was in the boat resting in peace. The disciples focussed on the conditions and not on the Lord. Is that like us as well?

{{Mark 4:37-40 “There arose a fierce gale of wind, and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already filling up, and He Himself was in the stern, ASLEEP ON THE CUSHION, and they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” and being aroused, He rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still,” and the wind died down and it became perfectly calm. He said to them, “Why are you so timid? How is it that you have no faith?”}}

How repeatedly do we do that? The Lord often is not our first resort and we run around and worry so much, like Martha did, but Mary was calm at the feet of Jesus. We are never alone for the Lord had to reassure His disciples – {{John 14:16 “and I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper that HE MAY BE WITH YOU FOREVER –“}} {{Matthew 28:20 “teaching them to observe all that I commanded you, and lo, I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, even to the end of the age.”}}

This is a short poem for me, written at a time when turmoil was all around me. Jesus is always near, even at our right hand. Never fear – your Lord is closer than a brother. Hurt comes and it can be harrowing but Jesus intercedes for us. Amen!

{{Psalm 56:3-4 “WHEN I AM AFRAID, I WILL PUT MY TRUST IN YOU. In God, whose word I praise, in God I have put my trust. I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me?” Psalm 56:11 “In God I have put my trust. I SHALL NOT BE AFRAID. What can man do to me?”}}

CHRIST - OUR SUPPORT IN HURT

When we are distressed, and feeling alone,

With skies darkened grey, and peace gone from home,

When doubts may arise; your prospects look dim,

There’s comfort in God - cast all care on Him.

His hand will hold fast; His mercy and care,

Will well support you, your troubles to bear.

“With you forever!” was His promise great,

Now take it on board, and to it relate.

===================================

Forget not this fact, that Jesus on high,

Once lived here on earth when troubles were nigh;

His soul was distressed, temptations endured,

And then on the cross, salvation secured.

He’s your Great High Priest; in heaven He serves;

He understands you when frayed are your nerves;

When pain, loss and hurt come crashing on you,

You’ll find then in Him, an Advocate true.

    People seem to be afraid of silence. They do anything to fill their lives with noise and avoid the emptiness. But God says "Be still and know that I am God." What can that mean to us and how can we go about doing it?

    When a lost person comes in the doors of this church, they sit down and they look around and see a thousand Christians in here singing praises to God. That has an impact on them because with one heart and one voice, we are glorifying God together.

    A lot of people think if they just had the right "formula" for praying that God would hear them. But that's not true. God's not impressed with your form, He's impressed with your childlike faith in prayer. So, how can I have that kind of faith in prayer?
