[022] A MESSAGE FROM A POEM - AT HIS FEET

This poem looks at certain events focussed on being at the Lord’s feet. Those feet that today bear the scars of Calvary, walked this earth in ministry and teaching as God among us. The best known story about the feet of Jesus is this one – {{Luke 7:37-38 “and behold, there was a woman in the city who was a sinner and when she learned that He was reclining at the table in the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster vial of perfume, and standing behind Him WEEPING AT HIS FEET, SHE BEGAN TO WET HIS FEET WITH HER TEARS, AND KEPT WIPING THEM with the hair of her head, and kissing His feet, and anointing them with the perfume.”}} Rightly so, this story is often used in messages about devotion and worship.

I suppose equally well known is this incident – {{Luke 10:39-42 She had a sister called Mary who moreover was listening to the Lord’s word, SEATED AT HIS FEET, but Martha was distracted with all her preparations and she came up to Him, and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me,” but the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things, but only a few things are necessary, really only one, for Mary has chosen THE GOOD PART which shall not be taken away from her.”}}

Mary and Martha are ones who loved the Lord greatly and in this story I suppose the term “ a time and a place” would apply. What each sister did was correct and necessary, but there was a time and place for activity. In the case we have, the correct time and place JUST THEN was to be at Jesus’ feet. That is why the Lord said to Martha, “the good part” and not “the better part”.

There is a whole study on “at His feet” in scripture, for when one bows, he is bowing at the feet of another. In this next passage, small and great, atheist and blasphemer, vile and corrupt men, will all have to comply – {{Philippians 2:9-11 “Therefore also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE SHOULD BOW, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and that EVERY TONGUE SHOULD CONFESS that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”}}

Those who belong to the Lord have already bowed the knee at the feet of Jesus in repentance, and worship Him who is Lord and Saviour, Redeemer and High Priest. Even so, come Lord Jesus for Your waiting people. Here is the poem -

AT HIS FEET

At His feet, I know His peace.

At His feet, no mercies cease.

At His feet, I find true rest.

At His feet, this place, the best.

=========================

Mary knew that place so well.

Gratitude, her actions tell;

Her devotion clearly shown.

Love’s warm tears was love she’d known.

=========================

Magi who had travelled far,

Who had tracked the Infant’s star,

Stood before Him worshipping;

At His feet were honouring.

=========================

One cleansed leper at His feet

Freely worshipped there - so sweet.

He returned to give his thanks -

Joined the praising, thankful ranks.

=========================

Soldiers stood before His feet.

Thorny crown, this King to greet.

Mockery alone they bring,

Ignorant of Christ, the King.

=========================

John fell at His feet thought dead.

Majesty had caused such dread;

Much too great the glory seen -

Overpow’ring it had been.

=========================

All the glory His alone.

Worthy Lord, upon the throne!

Elders’ crowns cast at His feet.

Honour, power - for Him, meet.

=========================

At His feet, no better place

To appreciate His grace!

At His feet, no better choice

Could be made where to rejoice!

=========================
