Genesis 6:1-9

Some think that the “sons of God” in this passage are angels; how can we say not? - v3 tells us that these men will die and angels are eternal beings; also, Jesus Himself tells us in the Gospels that angels do not marry!

What can we say about Gen 6:2? – God’s creations of people are beautiful and have free will; “sons of God” were godly people!

In context, how can Genesis 4-5 relate to Genesis 6:2? – as was indicated in the study of those chapters, the world has beautiful people but there are 2 types of people, godly and ungodly.

What are the positive and negative truths in v3? – Man is mortal, God is forever Spirit, BUT God allows man to live for a good period of time.

We note in v4 that there were “giants” on earth; why do you think God placed this here? – We should not be surprised about people being 7-10 feet tall’ Goliath is not a surprise “giant”!

So far, how can we say God created wonderful humans? – Beautiful, creative, variety of types and can live a good long life!

From v5, what does God look at and what does He see in “man”? – God looks at people’s hearts and ever since Adam and Eve sinned, people are stained with sin, evil.

What can we say about God from v6? – God has feelings and is hurt when people sin!

What right(s) does God have to do what He said in v7? – He created man, He can wipe them out; every person owes their lives to God!

What can we say about God in v8? – Even with “evil” hearts, God can give “love” to people.

Yes we can note good things about Noah in v9, but Did God really had to find favor in him? – Noah was sinner like every other person; but God has a plan to show His love!

Based on Genesis 6:1-9, what should we consider in our lives today? – We owe our lives to God and we should give it back to him as much as we can! Even though we are stained with sin, God can find “favor” in us, and today, this is done through belief in God’s son Jesus Christ! Daily acknowledge God’s love through belief and dependence in Jesus Christ and give back to God everything in our lives as much as we can!
